My Silicon Image ADD2-N card came in today, finally.

But all is not well...

I put it in, hooked up my Apple 20" display, and couldn't get video at all...

So, I attached my Viewsonic CRT to the VGA port and turned it on again.

Nothing... I mean, I got fans, lights, etc. but no video anywhere. I also seemed to notice a lack of actvity,, It didn't look like it was actually booting at this point.

To make a long story short, I played around a while and finally determined that I can boot up fine with the ADD2-N card in the system, but without my LCD display attached... If my display is attached at bootup time, the machine won't boot. If I boot up without the LCD attached, get all the way into OS X, then attach the LCD, it works!... Of course, when I made this discovery, I shutdown and rebooted... Yea, you guessed it.. Won't boot again, until the LCD is disconnected...

Anyone else have this sort of issue with your ADD2-N card? It's a Silicon Graphics - The dell part number recommended on this forum.. .(With the bracket removed so it will fit in my case.)

Any ideas?

I'm having a similar problem. With the ADD2-N card, if I have a monitor plugged in at boot time, the system won't start. However, if I leave my 20" Cinema Display unplugged, startup using a VGA based monitor, then plug the Cinema Display back in when OS X finally begins loading, I can switch monitors.

Once I figure out how to fix the startup problems, I'll be sure to have an answer. For now, just try doing what I suggested.

For reference, my board is an Intel D915GAVL. It uses the i915G chipset, as far as I'm aware. The ADD2-N card is an ASUS supplied one, but is also a Silicon Image one.

I've managed to solve the no-boot problem, at least on Intel D915x boards. For me, I simply updated the BIOS to the latest version from support.intel.com. The system now boots correctly not only with the 20" display attached, but also primarily from the 20" display.

This fixed it for me! Thanks!

My D915GUXL came with BIOS 401... It appears as if there have been many revisions since then and one of them corrects this problem..
