Hello all,

I'm having a problem booting OS X 10.4.6 which I installed from the pre patched jas DVD. The installation went fine but when I boot I get the message:

Waiting for bot volume with UUID D09A07AB-B9B8-37C9-AAAD-BA78D64BA7AA

Waiting in <dict id="0"><key>IOProviderClass</key><string ID="1">IOResources</string><key>IOResourceMatch></key><string ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict>

It then has the "still waiting for boot device" message over and over. How do I fix this?

There was another error which mentioned RTL57196s1 but I resolved this by turning the lan off in the BIOS.

I'm using a Asrock P4Dual-915gl with a Celeron D 320 with 512MB ram and a Western Digital 10GB harddrive.

Cheers

Ben

Waiting for root device is a tricky one. It means that the system cannot determine what disk contains the system file. You need to unconfuse it by unplugging any external drives including any flash drives. Make sure your target hard drive is set to primary and master and that your DVD drive is set to primary and slave (ie on same cable and no cable select). If possible, disconnect any other internal hard drives.

If you can't solve the problem, you might have to consider installing through VMware.

It's not always that simple either though. On my Asrock board, I had to switch the dvd drive to master and the hdd I was installing to to slave, and only ide channel 1 worked, so the wiring was tricky to say the least. On my laptop I'm trying to install on atm, I get the waiting for root error everytime unless I boot with 10.4.3, but then I get video related errors and kernel panics....sometimes you just can't win!

Anyone? I've searched the net and found nothing. I've also tried the 10.4.5 patched installation which gives me the same error. Is the hard drive I'm using the problem?
More likely the problem is your ICH6 Southbridge (ie ATA controller). This post might help.

The above thread seems to be about SATA. I'm using a normal (P)ATA drive. Am I missing something?

I've tried using a different harddrive, but I still get the same error.

I've tried using the vmware image but had no luck with that.

Can anyone offer any other suggestions, please!

Cheers

Ben
