John Corbett
I succefully installed snow 10.6.3 retail dvd on VMWare workstation 7.0 using efi legacy 1063. It's a new file that appeared this month on prasy's blog. Then I updated it to 10.6.4 without a problem. I'm running it off my AMD Phenom II 965 with 4GB of vmware workstation memory. The computer has 8GB. So if people say that snow can't be installed on Amd. It's not true you just have to be patient and get the right files for it to work. And I've done a lot of research to get this far. But I was also able to install 10.6.3 retail dvd on the same computer using an IDE Hard drive can't remember the version of EFI I used, But everything installed. My system ran much smoother after I updated the bios on the motherboard, which is a Asus. But I didn't have sound support and I couldn't utilize the Diamond 5870 videocard to the full extent. But I did get it to upgrade to 10.6.4. Before I quit on it. But it ran much faster than vmware of course. Still a bit of a noob but I'm starting to know what I'm doing. I want to build a new intel i7 computer I've researched the parts and I think it could be done. I am so tired of windows. Need to save the money though. Keep up the hunt! _Jay_
Please post your full specs for others to refer to seeing that you have a thread. Also, you can actually install Snow Leopard on it's own partition without VM. I was running Snow leopard 10.6.4 with Legacy kernel on my old Phenom II 940, GA-790x and 4gbs ram and two Sata hard drives. I messed up my Installation when I flashed my bios and the process didn't complete successfully but told me it did. Now I can't install SL on it at all but I can run Windows 7 64bit. ONLY 64bit! Yeah weird and stupid. But atleast the motherboard itself isn't dead. So post your specs to help others bro. Also for you future i7 build...here http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/ Scroll down to the buying guide. I would suggest going that route. They have DSDTs for the packages listed there and even some others.
