Manu0600
Hi, I'm thinking about the motherboard to buy for my hackintosh. I want to have a processor i7 930 and a graphic card ATI HD 5870. For the CPU any motherboard with a socket 1366 will fit, and for the GPU the only thing I need is Snow Leopard 10.6.4 or higher (for the HD 5*** support). I don't want to spend a HUGE amount of money on my motherboard so I am thinking about the ASRock X58 Extreme that cost 160 € (I live in Europe so I count in €). Will I get the sound & network to work on 10.6.4 ? I think it's the only thing I have to worry about… Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/224606-what-motherboard-for-socket-1366-on-1064/ Share on other sites
Mackilroy
I wouldn't go with ASRock - see if you can find a Gigabyte or Asus motherboard. Gigabyte has by far the most support, and Asus is fine in some situations. Manu0600
The gigabyte boards doesnt have a lot of choice with the socket 1366, and they are more expensive. I could buy a gigabyte one but these doesn't have enough PCI for the audio card and things like that, and too much PCI E16x (doesnt really matter) So, is the ASRock X58 Extreme motherboard compatible ? Mackilroy
I only saw one listing for X58 motherboards by ASRock, and that was for 10.6.1. So sure you could install OS X, but you wouldn't have much support, methinks. You might try a Google search to see if others have used ASRock in their own systems.
