silverknit
Hello everyone, I'm very happy with a 10.6.2 SL working rock solid with a P5Q and a Sapphire HD4870 Vapor X 1gb but i have a huge problem still, which for me makes this system unusable for work... This graphic card 's outputs are DVI/HDMI/VGA and I have one monitor plugged on DVI and fully working, and another one (vga) plugged on the vga output.. At boot time it's ok I have the two monitors working, even with the PCEFI menu and the apple loader, but as soon as it gets on the SL desktop it goes black (the vga one) and doesn't appear in the display manager (not detected).. It seems to be a well known problem but I'd like to know once and for all if it is definitely impossible to make it work! Are there solutions for this.. I can't work with one monitor!! I've searched everywhere but didn't find anything useful... I can't afford buying another card either...is there a way to write a special controler for vga outputs?? Please HELP Edit: I tried to plug the main monitor with a vga cable via a dvi/vga adapter and I get the two working but only Mirrored!! SL only detects one of the two monitors no matter what... If I swap the plugs it just detects the other but never both !! If I hot swap the plugs it even detects the other monitor and displays its name but the display is on the other monitor!! wow.... N1h1LuS
i actually made it to enable 2 monitors on my hd4850 witch is very close to yours so the process should be the same, but it's very messy, i hope you will understand somthing and get it to work: My main monitor was Samsung contected to DVI N*1 ( the one close to the motherboard) and all worked great The other monitor is an Acer conected to the second DVI but i had the same problem as you, Now all i did was: after Snow leopard booted, i swaped the two port and did a hard reset from the button, after the reset both screens were working but with bad resolution and same desktop on both, tried to reset a few times but didn't got it to work, so i swaped back to the original position and reset: Samsung on DVI 1 and Acer on DVI 2, same resolution and desktop problem... then i swaped and reboted again, and it worked, Samsung is the main monitor and acer second with a difrent resolution and desktop so point is: you have to swap the DVI ports so that Snow Leopard installs the drivers for your screen or something like that, give it a try. silverknit
ok thanks a lot for the trick!! i'm gonna try that but I fear my problem is diffrent for I have a second port in VGA (as written in my post) not 2 x DVI.... but will try !!
silverknit
Ok i've tried but it doesn't do it..... no matter what i try every time i reset after having swapped the cables it always boots with the monitor plugged in port 1 as the only one detected.... it mirrors display on the second with the same resolution...No way to detect both separately.... And it only displays on both with the dvi/vga adaptor, it never works on the vga when the main monitor is plugged in dvi I'm so desperate...think I 'm going to give up now.. unless someone.....
