nfshp253
I've just got Snow Leopard working nicely on my ASUS G51Jx-A1. It has an Intel Core i7-720QM processor and 8GB of 1333MHz RAM. However, Snow Leopard doesn't seem to be running as fast as it should. Whenever I click on something, I would have to wait a while before the action completes while the spinning wheel icon appears for the mouse. There is always persistent hard disk activity as the access light is almost always on. I feel that Snow Leopard is not correctly using the processor as it is identified as a 1.6GHz Quad-core Xeon instead. The GPU also does not run optimally as it can't play YouTube 720p or above videos smoothly. Playing avis or movs are slightly jerky too. The G51Jx has a nVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M that has full resolution and QE/CI enabled with the bootflag GraphicsEnabler="Yes". Can someone help me out with this issue? I've tried idlehalt=0 at startup and it seems a little better. nfshp253
The i7 processor doesn't seem to be running at its full potential. Geekbench on Mac gives 2745 while Geekbench on Windows 7 wa 5345. neil43
I don't have your answer. However I have seen a similar instance where the cause was the boot loader that I had installed (Geekbench in the low 3500s went to 5264 with change of boot loader). I documented this in post # 35 at this location. neil Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/221313-slow-on-laptop-with-i7-processor/#findComment-1493502 Share on other sites

nfshp253
What bootloader should I use then? I'm using Chameleon RC4 modded by AsereBLN. I don't use RAID so I don't see what I can configure in boot and boot0. I'm already using 10.6.4 in 64 bit and I get the line TurboRatios1169 (or something like that) at boot, which should mean that Snow Leopard knows of the SpeedStep and Turbo Boost functionalities. However, they don't seem to be actually implemented at all and I think the processor is actually being locked at the lowest multiplier and running at 900 or so MHz on each core only. The memory scores are particularly low and are extremely intriguing since RAM doesn't need drivers to work. But why the big difference between in Windows's memory scores and Snow Leopard's memory scores? Just to add, I always get Power-On Self Test (under Diagnostics in System Profiler) as failed. The reason cited was Memory and the memory malfunctioning was Bank 0 and Bank 2. I then checked under Memory and it said that all 4 sticks of 2GB Ram were working OK. That's weird.
