iWin32
I would like to make a a Live USB that can triple boot Ubuntu Linux 10.04, BartPE, and, of course, OSx86. I would also like to have David Elliot's Boot-132 be the bootloader to chose which one I would like to boot to. I have the tools needed to make it. I have downloaded the torrent file for iDeneb 1.5, but haven't started the download of the actual ISO yet (I have also legally obtained a copy of Retail Mac OS X Leopard). I have the tools needed to make the BartPE disk, and am currently downloading Ubuntu. I have an 8GB Traveldrive, and my primary laptop (Toshiba Satellite P305d-S8900) that I plan on using the live USB has the specs here: http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/pr...P305D-S8900.pdf Since I have no clue how to do it, I'm wondering if any of you guys might know how to do it. I could not find a tutorial anywhere. Please help ASAP! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/221178-triple-booting-live-usb/ Share on other sites

blitz9826
i'm in a similar situation as you, but slightly different. here's my syslinux.cfg i have so far (with small mods here and there, tho it's stable for now): ============================================================================ DEFAULT menu.c32 TIMEOUT 100 ALLOWOPTIONS 0 PROMPT 0 MENU TITLE SYSLINUX Boot System LABEL BootNormal MENU LABEL ^Local Boot LOCALBOOT 0 LABEL CleanBoot MENU LABEL ^DOS Boot Disk kernel memdisk append initrd=/Images/winb98se.IMA LABEL NetworkBoot MENU LABEL ^Network Boot Disk kernel memdisk append initrd=/Images/w98se-netboot.IMA LABEL ERD5 MENU LABEL ^ERD Commander 2009 via Grub kernel /grub.exe append --config-file="find --set-root /ERD.iso;chainloader /setupldr.bin" LABEL PE MENU LABEL ^WinPE 2.0 via Grub kernel /grub.exe append --config-file="find --set-root /SOURCES/BOOT.WIM;chainloader /BOOTMGR" LABEL OSX MENU LABEL iAtkos v^7 kernel /grub.exe append --config-file="map /Images/OSX/iATKOS_v7.iso (0xFF);map --hook;root (0xFF);chainloader (0xFF);boot" LABEL SnapDep MENU LABEL ^Snap Deploy kernel /Images/OSDDemon/kernel.dat append initrd=/Images/OSDDemon/ramdisk.dat vga=791 ramdisk_size=32768 acpi=off quiet noapic LABEL ImageCre MENU LABEL ^Image Creator kernel /Images/ImageCreator/kernel.dat append initrd=/Images/ImageCreator/ramdisk.dat vga=791 ramdisk_size=32768 acpi=off quiet noapic LABEL TrueImg MENU LABEL ^True Image kernel /Images/TrueImage/kernel.dat append initrd=/Images/TrueImage/ramdisk.dat vga=791 ramdisk_size=32768 acpi=off quiet noapic LABEL Thin MENU LABEL T^hinstation kernel /vmlinuz append initrd=/Images/Thinstation/initrd load_ramdisk=1 ramdisk_blocksize=4096 root=/dev/ram0 ramdisk_size=524288 splash=silent vga=791 console=ttyS3 LABEL DSL MENU LABEL Damn Small Linu^x KERNEL /Images/DSL/linux24 APPEND ramdisk_size=100000 init=/etc/init lang=us apm=power-off vga=791 initrd=/Images/DSL/minirt24.gz nomce noapic quiet BOOT_IMAGE=knoppix LABEL Knoppix MENU LABEL ^Knoppix 6.2.1 LiveCD KERNEL /Images/Knoppix/linux APPEND ramdisk_size=1048576 lang=en vt.default_utf8=0 apm=power-off vga=791 initrd=/Images/Knoppix/minirt.gz nomce quiet loglevel=0 tz=localtime toram LABEL GPXE MENU LABEL ^GPXE KERNEL /Images/gpxe.lkrn ============================================================================ Yes, there's a LOT of unnecessary {censored} in there that's unrelated to osx. anyways, as you can see, i have iatkos v7 added in the menu. the toughest part was getting the damn thing to boot. syslinux sadly wasn't flexbile enough to boot the dvd. however, after i messed around with grub4dos and its documentation, i FINALLY got the damn thing working. well, half way through anyways. it boots up and brings the darwin command line. naturally i've done F8 put in -v, -v -f, -v -x, -v -rd=disk0s1, all to no avail. let me explain. 1. i get the syslinux menu 2. i select iatkos v7 and hit enter 3. grub does its thing and boots the iso in no emulation mode 4. i hit enter, the usb drive LOADS files and the apple logo shows up. goody! this is where i hit a wall. i used verbose and found out it complains about my firewire. i don't see why it should be a problem (yes, the whole "returning to fullsecured" thing or w/e). anyways, after that the notorious "still waiting for root device" error shows up. thus the -rd switch. i did notice that after teh firewire error shows up the usb drive loads a few more files (though nothing in the verbose) and then it locks up into the SWFRD error {censored}. my hardware? hp dv5-1215ee (not that well known version of the dv5) notebook ICH9 chipset, nvidia 9200m gs, idt audio chip, broadcom wifi, bluetooth, webcam, touchpad, keyboard, ir port that i never use, sata hdd 250 gigs (i'm damn sure it's port zero, that's what device manager tells me), dvd rw drive (damn sure it's sata but it's unrelated; i'm installing from emulated cd), that's pretty much it. an esata/usb combo port and hdmi port if it matters. um, i'm sure i've covered all the bases. it's a 16 gig usb drive btw, corsair flash voyager. i love the bejeezus outta this thing and i'm stickin to flash for a reason: it's with my keys, and my keys are with me. i don't need to lug an external hdd around (i know 2.5" hdds are small, but nothing beats the weightlessness and form factor of a pendrive). if anybody could be kind enough to contribute? also, YES, i have installed on this laptop before. the only difference is i installed onto my 250 gig 2.5" external usb drive. separate 20 gig partition n all. i had to use a dvd then, but with all the growth i've been providing my usb, i wanna kiss the optical media days goodbye. c'mon men, hoist the sails and let's venture into the sea of usb-based installations where we don't have thousands of files laying around! blitz ps: sorry for the seriously disorganized talk. i've been chasing my tail with all those software packages: first it was erd commander 2009 iso, then the winpe wim, then knoppix, and now this. sadly mac isn't my forte (i love it nonetheless). if someone wants me to repost in an organized manner, holler by the numbers. McDarling
I think you still would need a larger usb drive seeing as osx86 would take up around 75% of your drive....but I like the ambition. The other two should be small though. I think you can do a Ubuntu minimal install and use very little space. nocturnal_50
i've installed iPortable snow on an 8gb USB and found that i only has 287.6mb of space left on the drive.... so unless you want to run either puppy linux, DSL or tiny core linux I think you may want a bigger drive Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/221178-triple-booting-live-usb/#findComment-1548617 Share on other sites
