Don't know where to start

Hello everyone

I have been reading a lot on this great website. Still i am no step closer to having the Mac OS X working on my Dell Dimension desktop. There are some questions i have and i appreciate all the help i wil get, because i really want to get closer to my goal. It should be pretty straight forward for most experienced people but for me OSX86 is just a road without clear visuals.

1. Can i use a retail installation DVD from one of my friends owning an Apple computer with Leo?

2. Do i just need to put that DVD into my desktop and install it?

3. Can i make a live USB and how would this best be done.

I know that's a lot of questioning but if only one question would be cleared, it would help me a lot.

Thanks!

I´m not experienced with Hackintoshes but last friday i just downloaded the Snow Leopard Retail ISO, burned the DVD and then burned the Empire EFI CD.

All i need to do was: Boot from EFI CD, then change to Snow Leopard DVD and install it as if it was in a real mac.

It was THAT simple for me.

I folowed this tutorial tho install on my machine:

http://rgwoehr.wordpress.com/2010/01/30/ha...-p5q-pro-turbo/

By the way, i installed it on a external USB drive, so i believe you can make a live boot with a pen drive.

Hope that helps!

Cheers..

PG

Thanks! This is really helpful since i was searching for a very clear, step by step guide on how to do it.

I am definitely going to try this soon.

Does anyone has experience with booting via Empire EFI on a Dell computer (Dell motherboard and BIOS included)?

Because i have tried it like it should:

1. I select "Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive".

2. I hit enter.

3. I get a message "Selected boot device not available - stike F1 to retry boot, F2 for set utility".

I have tried Empire EFI normal and Empire EFI legacy written on a CD and Empire EFI legacy via a USB stick. The boot sequence was also set right.

I hope somebody can help me, because i really don't know what to do and just want to see Empire EFI boot.

Greetings!

Some updates:

I have tried to boot the CD from another computer (not made by Dell). This neither works.

Could there be something wrong with the CD-R i burned?

This is how i dit it:

In Windows Vista, i dragged the EmpireEFI_v108.iso to the E drive (containing an empty CD-R) and then it started burning.

Is this the right method or could everything have gone wrong at this point?

I'm having this same problem.. can't seem to figure it out

Are you guys getting the boot screen from the boot loader? Because i aint even getting there and that's strange. You would suppose the problems start once the bootloader is there or you are installing Snow Leo.

I hope somebody with superior knowledge is able to see our problems here.

Yes I get the boot screen, at least until "Loading Darwin X86" some times it freezes so I try a new one. Anyway I just faced your prob. boot image in my DVD wont boot,

I got the bootloader screen with Boot 132, the problem is it takes 1 hour to load, and my screen just sits there with a black screen until it loads. Im trying to install a retail MAC OS X 10.6.3 on my Nvidia Nforce 680i SLI LT board, q6600 cpu, and 7900gs gpu. I cannot get it to go. any help would be great.

So you are using Boot 132 with an Intel Core 2 duo 6600?

:)

You tried Empire EFI and Darwin X86. What are your specs?

These are mine:

I tried Empire EFI and #####.

Dell Dimension 9200

Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 2,4 GHz

Ati Radeon HD 5770 (if i need to, i can use a Nvidia Geforce 7900gs)

Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi

2 x Western Digital 250GB HDD

Sony DVD-RW drive

I am asking this because maybe we can see a relation here (apart from that we all can't do the boot or the install).

Still i hope we can get some attention from somebody who has the experience to see "what we're doing wrong"...

Now i finally get the boot screen from Empire EFI. But it freezes like with your install, Sahanz. We'll see what we can do about this...

Hi Congrats ! :)

Try your nvidia Card. ATI 5XXX  Somebody said that ATI 5XXX series won't support. Not sure though. Try your nvidia. Also if you like to keep your retail disk aside for a while try LeoHazrd distro.

Anyway I just faced your prob. boot image in my DVD wont boot,

:(

It because of a common problem, Bios get reset. :) (After SL installation)

Hey

I have tried ##### supported now and it is almost successful.

I get two errors:

One at the beginning, when loading the bootloader (i get this one also when booting with Empire EFI):

4699007927_c2f8d0b147_b.jpg

When i put in the Snow Leo retail DVD and hit F5, -V and ENTER, I get this:

4699638146_8fe482ff57_b.jpg

How can i solve this? I think this is the last error before i finally can install Snow Leo.

Last 2 errors "Still waiting" it happened to me. Normally it finish after first attempt. But I didnt had any success with this. I think I tried a different one. May be you can try to change the bios(I think I got solutions by switching between SATA/AHCI/IDE). -v and -x these flags I dont have any idea, I'm not a professional. Anyway did u try ur nvdia card? and I'm sure your making progress :(

Error one (no ramdisk config) disappears when i put the HDD on SATA-1 and the DVD-RW on SATA-2.

You got the same second error? Strange.

I disabled RAID in the BIOS (this is the same as enabling AHCI).

I tried variations of -v and -x.

My Nvidia card is mounted, all other devices like firewire card, second HDD, ... are disconnected.

Apparently it has nothing to do with the bootloader because Empire EFI and ##### are giving this error and i've read that other people with other bootloaders got the same problem.

I searched the forums, the internet and tried a bunch of stuff but nothing that actually solved it.

I appreciate your support. What are you trying at the moment?

It's just a matter of time until this damn thing will work for us.
