boot panic on 10.6.2 dell vostro after installing azalia audio

Hi all,,

i've been a member here, picking up loads of useful info for a good while now, but i rarely ask for much!

now, i'm coming here with my tail between my legs cos i broke my snow kitty

long story short, it's worked almost perfectly in 64bit mode on my vostro 1500 for aaaaages.....but last night, i decided i wanted to try to enable digital audio out. (it is sent through the svideo port on the vostro)

i remember having seen it in the past so i figured it must have been through one the drivers i'd used in the past...

either a patched applehda.kext

voodoohda.kext

or appleazaliaaudio.kext

now, i figured soon enough that applehda patching doesn't seem to work on 10.6....and voodoo didn't give me digital out, so i removed them both and ran an appleazaliaaudio installer package from kexts.com.

when i rebooted, i got a panic right at the start of the boot process, and although i have screen reporting on, there's no reference to any kext in it.....so i'm stumped!!

i've dual booted into leopard and removed azalia, and restored any original audio kexts that i have, but it still panics?

can anyone smarter than me take a stab as to why this would happen?

if push comes to shove, i'll reinstall from my retail disks, but i'd really rather not!

i checked the isntall log from the azalia package and it seems like all it does is backup old audio kexts, and install appleazaliaaudio.kext,,,,,so i can't see that anything else would have changed!?!

many thanks in advance everyone!
