faraz.yashar
I upgraded to 10.5.8, and I'm running the latest voodoo kernel on a 2 GHz P4. Sadly, 10.5.8 runs like a freakin' cow compared to 10.5.2-10.5.7. Is there any way to fix this or did the ol' Leopard get insanely fat? Old news... I decided to nuke the drive using Disk Utility on my install disc and rebuilt the partitions. If you have any idea how this happened feel free to chip in. Now here's where things get really bizarre... The only way I could get Chameleon to recognize both Mac and Windows was to create a partition on my Windows HD where I installed Chameleon and set it as the active partition. Worked like a charm for when I was running 10.5.2-10.5.5. (I tried 10.5.6 a few times and gave up.) After the iDeneb 10.5.8 Combo Update, the partition seems to have disappeared. So I figured it wasn't mounting or perhaps it was marked as hidden. I opened up Disk Utility and nothing was there, and I noticed some really strange numbers: I never knew the partition scheme could be smaller than a partition. The partition was disk0s2, named Chameleon, and held only around 100MB. So I guess my question here is... Where the hell did it go?! Chameleon still boots, and it can still boot Windows without a problem. oldtopman
What do you need access to the partition for? It sounds like you just idiot-proofed your partitions (as long as that chameleon partition didn't get added to another partition, if so I'd stay away from partitioning.) faraz.yashar
The only idiot I'd be keeping away from the partition is me, and since I wanted to change the boot.plist for Chameleon, this is extremely inconvenient. faraz.yashar
I used the disk utility on an install disk to nuke the hard drive that had Chameleon loaded. I think the partition tables got really screwed up in my OS X installation. Even using fdisk didn't help. Now for the question of why the hell does 10.5.8 run like a cow compared to 10.5.2-10.5.7?? michael.su
"I upgraded to 10.5.8, and I'm running the latest voodoo kernel on a 2 GHz P4." I have the same setup except the kernel (10.5.8, P4 2GHz) 10.5.8 runs well for me but I'm running the Voodoo 9.5 kernel. I tried the 9.8 Qoops (sp) kernel before but it seemed to take much longer to startup so I reloaded Voodoo ( I didn't run it long enough to notice any slowdown but it may have been present). I would say 10.5.8 runs as well as 10.5.6 did, if not better on my system. For installation I used iDeneb 10.5.8 lite for the base system then iPC 10.5.6 for SMbios -TOH and LegacyAppleIntelPIIXATA (chipset driver) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/220388-sluggish-after-upgrade-with-some-weird-side-effects/#findComment-1484532 Share on other sites
faraz.yashar
Solved: Graphics drivers had to be reinstalled to support hardware acceleration.
