notbillcosby
Hey guys, I'm running a Dell Optiplex GX270, Intel 865g chipset. I have an ATA hdd and DVD drive, and the DVD drive isn't recognized by the system. What kext am I going to need to get this to work? I also can't get the onboard network to work... both of these problems seem non-existent to everyone else who's installed OSX on this computer, so I'm assuming I clicked a wrong box on installation... Please help!
Beerkex'd
You need AppleIntelPIIATA.kext.
notbillcosby
You need AppleIntelPIIATA.kext. Awesome! That fixed my DVD drive issue! What do I need to get my onboard networking to wake up?
Beerkex'd
Great! If you download LSPCI, run it and post the output here maybe I can help with that too. http://www.x86dev.org/forum/index.php?topic=307.0 After installing, type lspci -nn in terminal. I also have some old pci network card in there that I installed a while back, hoping it'd magically be recognized by OS X... but it wasn't either. I know tons of other people haven't had a problem with the onboard ethernet!
Beerkex'd
Funny, that looks remarkably like my P4 (see sig). It has the exact same on-board ethernet as yours and I was able to get it to work perfectly with the attached version of IONetworkingFamily.kext (plugins included) which comes from the JaS Client/Server 10.5.4 distro. It worked great on 10.5.4-5 but unfortunately on later versions of Leopard it became unreliable and started to drop the connection all the time. I fought for a while to get it to work but I never found any reliable solution. In the end I caved in and picked up a random Realtek RTL8139 PCI card and it works flawlessly. IONetworkingFamily.kext.zip Try it on your Hackintosh (but keep a copy of the IONetworkingFamily.kext you're using now just in case). Maybe it works better on yours than it did on mine. If it doesn't work, I'm pretty sure there are Leopard drivers available for your Realtek PCI card..you just have to find them... Next time I boot up the P4 I'll post a copy of the extensions I use for sound, I think you can use those too. I managed to fix the ones that come with 10.5.8 myself, it's nice to not have to use old kernel extensions.
notbillcosby
Awesome, it works! It does seem to be a little shaky, sometimes I have to click on links twice and stuff, I might try getting the realtek card up and running too. Thanks so much for your help!!! I have a fully functional hackintosh, finally.
notbillcosby
So that RTL8029 is using a Novell NE2000 chipset. After a fair bit of searching, i can't find a driver or kext for these cards anywhere. Anyone know if I'm missing something?
Beerkex'd
I looked around for a while and it looks like there are no drivers for the 8029AS. It's prehistoric so that's no surprise..
notbillcosby
Haha, yeah, it's the only ethernet card I could find that wasn't being used
Cerastez
I have had good luck getting realtek cards working with IOXperts 802.11b driver X
