Want Final Review On X58A-UD3R Build Before I Buy

I would like an opinion on this near future build. This will be my first hackintosh and am exciting to get it up and running. I would like to know if anyone has had success with this board or has a good how-to on installing on this board.

Is there another mobo that is more recommended? I would like the EX58-UD5 but it is hard to find and costs too much on Amazon.

I already have the PSU, GPU and Disk Drive, so this will save money.

Thanks

This is the same as what I want to do except for the case/PSU. I am planning on an Antec sonata iii 500 for those.

As long as the EX58-UD3r works, I am pretty sure the GPU will work, and everything else looks good.

Processor core i7 930 2,8 $289

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3r $209

RAM OCZ Gold 6GB $170

Case/PSU Antec sonata III 500 $120

GPU EVGA 9800GT 1gb $137

Optical Sony lightscribe $24

Hard Drive WD Caviar Black $90

Cooler CoolerMaster 212 $29

badd99, I'm looking to make a similar build in a few week to a month, intended for freelance video editing and 3-D graphics with Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Motion, Color and experimenting with Blender, Maya and some other cool stuff. I'm pretty new to building computers (I'm more of a software guy). The only parts I know for sure I'll be using are the processor, mobo and case/power supply. The rest is pure speculation or fantasy. I've heard ATI GPUs are better for video and graphics. My budget is under $2K (preferably less, but I can afford it) - here's what I have so far:

Definite -

intel i7 930 processor

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard

Antec Sonata III w/500w Earthwatts Power Supply

Everything else is undecided, though I'm pretty sure I want a 120-128 gb SSD for OSX (and maybe a partition for Ubuntu Studio) and 2 1TB HD's for storage/scratch discs. I do want an ATI workstation graphics card, since they're probably the best thing I can get for CAD.

I doubt you'll be able to get a workstation card to work – the best ATI card you'll be able to get your hands on is the HD 4890 (or assuming Apple releases new Mac Pros before then, which is unlikely) you might have the option of a 5850 or 5870.

Hi Dlauth - any updates on your build, I'm thinking about buying the components in your wish list and was wondering how hard the install was. Does the case have enough cooling or did you have to supplement it? Also, did you buy an additional CPU cooler?

I put mine up here: https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedW...spx?ID=18111847
