juan_cl
i know this isn't the most windowsish forum, but if anyone could help, i'd appreciate it. I have a usb-only cable modem connected to a pc. i have that internet connection as shared. If i try to use that internet connection as the internet connection on a wireless router(the dlink di-524),through ethernet, as shared, it wont work. It wont use the internet connection. How can i fix this. All the help will be appreciated. armo
make sure you configure the router manually with an ip address and put in a gateway ip into the router. when you use internet connection sharing you have to manually configure a connection since there is no dhcp server. embries
Right or you could run a DHCP and DNS server on your win box, but that'd be silly. armo
you could also look at a linux software firewall box like smoothwall, ipcop, m0nowall. It would be cable modem --> linux box --> wireless router. The linux box also would have a dns and dhcp server built in saving you some trouble.
