ok, i just found out why it wasn't extracting! it seems my hd is fat32, is there anyway to make it another type with deleting all the data?

Yes. Use Partition Magic to convert from a filesystem to another (fat32 to ntfs in your case) without data loss.

If you have a modicum of linux skill, you can download the "System Rescue CD" (on sourceforge.net), which is bootable and includes a partition magic clone with all of the abilities (and a few more) of the original. This would allow you to bypass your windows issues.

I have only the barest knowledge of linux, and it was really no hassle for me.

you had the same problem?

Hey guys, I hate being a nuisance, but do any of you guys have a step by step guide on how to use the generic install dvd? I used disk utility to erase my hard drive, then I went on the installation process. There are volume options such as "osx extended" and "osxtended (journalled". What does that mean? Thanks.
