well let me start with %^&%$R$#$%&^ ;) why did i buy this apple atheros card! apparently its not working properly in pci bus of inspiron 1520 ich8 nvidia 8600m Gt 256mb.(blehh its in my sig)

apple Ar5bxb72

dev 0024

works fine in linux with madwifi

error: offset_100 = 0xffffffff

then it cant load Ar5424.kext

anyways heres what i have tried. in 10.5.8 and now fresh 10.5.6 no updates.

1: fresh install 10.5.6 = same

2: dsdt tricks.. the king "we want your hardware ids" on the other forum= same

3: switching slots .. wifi slot is RP02, Cell is RP01 and some bluetooth slot is RP03.. tried them all= same

4: turned off stuff in bios(wifi switch, flash cache module, lan, 1394 and mediacard) running A09 = same and reset to defaults after each try

5: tried slices inspiron 1525 dsdt = same

6: different atheros Ar5bxb63-H from HP =same error

7: tried iopci mods like slice and chun-nan = same

:censored2:

now what im testing next is

1t: the bios version. as i saw at dells site A08 was a fix for broadcom compat issues. so im flashing to A07 : same issue

2t: dump rom, see whats inside and fresh dsdt and ssdt in nix and start over. SAME

i have one more theory.. in the dsdt for a macbookp4,1 i saw a Buff0 and shift left if Arg..ect, and it looks different than mine by a lot...

i wonder if osid Darwin causes pci bus changes that i dont have applied in my inspiron 1520

finally if no results ...ill give up and just use the broadcom 4315 in osx

and when i need linux.. open n switch it. or leave both in there. probably will conflict works fine with bcm4315 added in kext pcimatched.. and removed atheros pcimatch. i use switch to turn off bcm in linux not atheros :P

not even a "oh i have same issue" or "i seen fix @"

BUMP

I am working the same issue now, accept with a D630 (nVidia model). I've tried with a couple of Atheros cards noted to "work out of the box" with zero success. Have you figured anything out?

negative.. best bet is broadcom that is supported .. the device id in the kext.. or usb supported models

or u can try rebranding , ANV IOPciFamily, slice IOPCI.

main thing is Ath5k (ar5bxXXX) chipsets use pci bus different in osx. i have tried both ar5bxb72 reall apple, ar5bxb63-h (hp), ar5bxb6 fujitsu wll4080

and all do that error ^. tried different dsdts, tried rebranding the ar5bxb63-h and it almost worked.. it didnt show error. but pcimatched wasnt correct.

so its definitelytrying to load the kext.

i think it reads parts of the ROm backwwards like big endian little endian ppc.

ath9k (AR928x) cards doesnt have this issue. but no drivers in 10.5.8 only 10.6 and it still has some issues in dell laptops pci bus.

BUMPity Bump!

btw anyone have a real apple Ar9280 ar5bxb92 card ? i want to compare to my aw-ne772 id and subvendor and capabilitie

EDIT 1-1-2011. SUCCESS Rebranding the wll4080 ar5bxb62 like codingrobot says in 2nd post of rebranding EXact spots on my card.

now it says unknown locale but it works so im going use the ar9085 fix for the locale fix :P
