jya
Hello I installed in my Sony Vaio a Dell 1390 Wireless card (broadcom chipset). I noticed that the performance over the wireless link were rather poor in comparison of what I could get while running windows. Under Windows, most internet download woud go at around 600+kB/s while under MacOS I have never seen a download going over 100kB/s (both system running Firefox 1.5.0.4). So I tried to copy files locally across two machines. Under Windows, I copy a file across two local machines at 2.1MB/s (constant speed) Under MacOS, it varies constantly, it would sometime peak at 1.6MB/s but the average is just 1MB/s I tried several versions of the IO80211 drivers, the one that came with the 10.4.6 JaS DVD and some I found on the forums. It made very little difference , the speed is still rather poor. Has anybody experienced similar problems? Cheers JY
Justin R.
Well my original laptop a while ago when I started on the marvelous OSX86 was a hp Pavilion ze4900, and it had a Broadcom wireless card in it. I got it to work and I noticed a speed decrease but I believed it to be my router (I had slow speeds all around, no matter what computer I was on) I'm starting again on OSX86 on a new laptop, a hp Pavilion dv4000 and it has an Intel PRO Wireless card in it. I just bought a new Broadcom wireless card. In a matter of fact, it's a Dell 1350 (Broadcom 4306), so once I install Mac again and get my wireless card I'll get back to you on the status of the transfer speed. Good luck on your problem and finding a solution.

I'm sure it's not the router/wireless access point. As with the computer sitting exactly at the same location, transferring after the laptop booted windows is much faster. dk5151
I also have a broadcom wireless card, and my performance is much worse in OS X than it is with Windows. I have no idea how to fix it, but you're not alone.
