ASUS P5G41T-M-LX, E5400 2.7 GHZ, OSX86 Impossible?

Hi there,

I apologise in advance if my post is in anyway moronic. I have no hesitation in calling myself a noob. Basically up until today I had a perfectly functional Macbook which has suffered some sort of logic board failure. I use mac only programs for my uni course, and I really like to have a mac at home so i don't need to be on campus all the time.

I can't afford a new mac (right now), so I began researching OSX86 and thought it may be possible to install 10.5 (I had a retail copy laying around) onto my PC:

 • ASUS P5G41T-M-LX
 • Pentium Dual Core E5400 2.7GHZ
 • Generic G41 Chipset graphics (GMA x3100 I'm pretty confident)
 • On board ethernet networking
 • Samsung DL DVD ROM

I really want to go down the road of the vanilla kernal (retail install) is that possible with my PC? I've tried boot-132 but it just sits at the apple logo.

I realise I'm probably a pain in the arse, but is someone willing to help me out with some info or direction of what i need to do to get boot-132 or some other method working?

Many thanks

i got this board just to install mac os on it. if it's exactly this board, it can be done. you obliviously haven't read installation guides but it's easy than i thought. Although, i dont know if the intel GMA X4500 will work with QE/CI at least as i used a GT220 (works but sys info shows 'unknown' but has QE working)

To get it to work, i used an ##### cd and the 10.6 retail DVD.

You need to change the BIOS settings as well. the main one was the one about the hard drive setup. on the first page of the BIOS, 'storage configuration' -> under 'native mode' (i think) pick 'SATA'.

you can use MBCD as well. should work the same.

USE a USB KEYBOARD & MOUSE. much easier and more compatible

drop boot disc in and boot the computer. at the boot screen, eject the disk and put in the Mac OS X dvd and press F5. pick MacOSXInstall. you may need reboot and type -x cpus=1 at the boot disk prompt before starting the OS X installer to get it to start if it doesn't.

on the installer, get to the disk utility, partition your drive using GUID partition table then run thru the rest of the installer and reboot when it says so. (an error may appear but it's normal)

put the boot cd back in, you may need '-x cpus=1' or just 'cpus=1' at the boot loader. and it should boot in to OS X.

I used ##### to set the rest of the system up it has the kext you need for audio and ethernet in it and installs a boot loader so you don't need the CD anymore. Using #####, pick ##### in the installer go in to the advanced, go to audio, pick VoodooHDA using the latest version there, go to ethernet/lan pick the realtek 1000sl (something like that). hit install reboot without the CD and it should be good.

good luck. it should be working in 64-bit mode. the only thing i'm stuck on is the wi-fi card i put in. wi-fi is a pain to get working anyway.

ps. if you have the iLife DVD install that and run iMovie it'll load if QE is working. otherwise, another trick is Dashboard -> add widget and look for the ripple effect.

I know this is quite an old post but hopefully someone can help. I have this motherboard and am experiencing difficulties. I've tried both boot-123 & ##### and my retail snow leploard hangs on either a black screen or the grey apple logo. I have tried booting with various combinations of flags; -x -v CPUS=1 & PCIRootUID=1 but no go. Does it really make much difference to use a USB keyboard as I only have a ps2 keyboard currently.

Thanks!

Try ##### legacy from tonymacx86.com or natits MyHack installer. You may need to use -x -v with iBootLegacy CD I forget.

Good luck.
