Hangten
Hello SkyZ, Was wondering what speeds your getting on it? Has it made your system any greater in response? Does Mac give ( device permitted of course) SATA 6GB/s speed or you need a card with an I/O engine to achieve speed? I recently purchased a Vertex LE but could still return it an purchase 128GB Crucial RealSSD C300 2.5-inch SATA 6GB/s SSD Its currently recommended not to use on Mac. Still others are using them with a tremendous loss in performance but still greater speed than any HDD. From first experimenting with an X58 in RAID with SSD's and the Overclockers.com forum on HDD it was apparent that X58 offered speeds that way surpassed SATA 3GB/s but behavior was erratic and the amount of drives was ridiculous and price. So the recommended solution was to run a controller card with an I/O engine and memory buffer onboard this kept system stutter to a minimum. Some earlier SSD's had no cache and to get it all set up was a pain. Until now with Windows 7 and TRIM support new generation SSD's fly and continue to be @ there rated speed when new. There is no need to do anything special just don't defragment them and disable mechanical presence in the BIOS. There are a lot of tweaks but seriously they didn't really add up to a whole lot of difference. I kinda laughed when AMD announced there exclusive to SATA 3 just because everyone who followed the seen knew AMD was severely limited and capped out below 3GB/s on SATA 2 so SATA 3 for AMD would really help out. X58 just flew past SATA 2. Then try a real controller card with PCI-E and nirvana was achieved when mating an SSD. Hi there, I didn't make any measurement (don't have SATA 3 HDD at this moment), and I believe most of the system still haven't really utilize all the bandwidth of SATA II (3Gb/s), so....... Anyway, instead of paying premium for Sonnet/Newer Tech eSATA II cards, or dirt cheap but very unstable Silicon Image 3132 based cards, the HighPoint one is obviously the best choice, at least for this moment. Also if the 622 has problems with more than one card in the box. I have a 620 and it rocks.. Then... I bought a 644 and it has a MAJOR firmware bug that hangs BIOS if it sees more than one (bootable) raid set going on. Help Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/218165-highpoint-rocket-622-esata-6gbs-adapter/#findComment-1491306 Share on other sites
