I have a box with a rs482-m motherboard, amd 64 3500+ cpu, gig of ram, I burned a dvd with the osx image in it and I'm trying to install it on a 40 gig hard drive that has nothing else in it, problem is: when I boot off the dvd it goes into the silver screen with the apple logo in the center, and the equivalent of the hour glass icon on the bottom, after a few minutes an icon appears in the center, the icon is a circle with a slash inside of it, very common, what does this mean?

Try looking through THIS. Most all the problems that people are experiencing have already been answewred. All you have to do is use the search function. One this I will suggest is that make sure your HD and DVDRW drive are on the "PRIMARY IDE" chain. Either set HD as the master and DVDRW as slave or vise versa. Once you do that you should be able to boot to the installer. Also when you first up dvd hit F8 and then type -v and hit enter. This way if you do have any problems you will be able to see what they are.

Good luck,

Chevy
