OmnipotentIdiot
I have a G4 dual 533 laying around that has Leopard running on it and someone gave me a G4 Quicksilver with nothing in it. Can I take the RAM,HD,Airport, etc. out of the duo 533 and put it all in the Quicksilver without having to wipe the hard drive and re-install? lazybon3
Hello! Changing the RAM should be no Problem, Airport (i guess it uses the same Interface as on the other other Mac) should be no problem too, dont forget to connect the Antenna. Hard Disk could be a Problem, just depends on what you are using the HD for, if you use it as boot Volume there could be problems with some configurations (Network...) but it is at least worth trying. If you just want to use the HD as Secondary Hard Drive it should work without an problems. My Tip: Just take the Hard Drive out of your G4, and connect it in the Quicksilver, and try to boot from it. If everything that you need works, put the rest of your old hardware into the Quicksilver. Of course: dont forget to put the RAM into the Quicksilver too, else it wont boot, i guess... Good Luck! OmnipotentIdiot
thanks for the reply, everything swapped over but the hard drive would not load leopard from the previous machine so I ended up doing a re-install. Id have another issue though,my 80gb HD shows up as 31.75gb? Systemprofiler reads all of the HD info correctly(serial number, bios number, etc.) but only gives me half of the storage? Any ideas? lazybon3
Hello! It is an IDE-HDD? Have you checked the Jumpers on the back? on the top of the disk there should be a sticker with the jumper settings, make sure you dont have the Disk limited to 32GB. The only other idea i got is that maybe you just made a 32GB Partition while setting up, so you could check in Disk Utility if the Rest of Disk Space is shown, if it isnt shown there, just check if the jumpers are set right. Hope this works out for you. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/213328-hdd-swap-between-two-powermac-g4-towers/#findComment-1432848 Share on other sites
