At what point does the install fail and what exactly happens when it fails? Do you have a different video card that you could use for the install? I wasn't able to do an install with my hd4670 so I use a 6600gt for the install and then I upgrade to 10.6.2 and then I use PC EFI v6 to get my 4670 working. BatcOuntrY
Get rid of the hacked BIOS and just follow a guide for your mobo. Actually I use cartri's "hacked" bios (as you called it) on two systems and I've never had an easier install or a more stable system. I respectfully disagree. mumford
My experience is that the hacked bios install works, but you need to make sure that fakesmc.kext is in the extra/extensions Chameleon folder of the install disk. I used a 8gb usb flash drive and cloned the install disk image (dmg) onto it. I think you should add the efi string of your graphic card onto the com.apple.boot.plist and include that into the extra folder as well. Some install disk will say that "Mac OS X cannot install on this computer". after the installation process has started. You have two options: [1] Use a different install disk image, or [2] Do the following on post #20 or #21 http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=407190 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/213289-need-a-little-help-please/#findComment-1431781 Share on other sites
stickman1000000
Well thanks for the reply guys and I'll try and shed a little more info Well first things first I don't have an 8 gb USB or portable hard drive. I assumed I would just be able to install it off the disc anyway installing off the disc works fine and booting with the kakewalk DVD then putting in retail to boot sl no kp no nothing it works fine. As usual the register your product comes up etc etc. Now this is the part where I get confused and am unsure on what to do. I understand I don't need a dsdt. Aml because of the mac bios i have and I understand that I need to install a bootloader bit I am unsure what one to use that supports my HD 4890. Also what do I need to do with the extra folder and stuff I'm a little confused Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/213289-need-a-little-help-please/#findComment-1431788 Share on other sites
mumford
Also what do I need to do with the extra folder and stuff I'm a little confused you are very very close. There is a thread on this forum about fakesmc.kext, version 2.5. Download that file and put in into the /Extra/Extensions folder. if you only have the Extra folder, create an Extensions folder within it. The Extra folder is automatically created when you installed Chameleon bootloader. If you do not have the Extra folder, google Chameleon installer on this forum. Download it and run the installer. Can't help you on ATI graphic card however. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/213289-need-a-little-help-please/#findComment-1431791 Share on other sites

Lastly I'm pretty sure pc efi doesn't make an extra folder as chameleon does Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/213289-need-a-little-help-please/#findComment-1431795 Share on other sites

Lastly I'm pretty sure pc efi doesn't make an extra folder as chameleon does I think pc efi is based, in part, on Chameleon. I think you need to ask those folks with ati and pc efi experience. I have learned long ago to stick with Nvidia for Hackintosh or Linux. breakingbad
Actually I use cartri's "hacked" bios (as you called it) on two systems and I've never had an easier install or a more stable system. I respectfully disagree. I agree with d'animal. Cartri's Mac BIOS Edition for certain models of Gigabyte mobos works so damn fine, but I face a little issue with it. With this BIOS installed to my mobo, I just couldn't install Snow Leo to my rig. So I reverted my BIOS to original F9 from Gigabyte, installed OSX and then reapplied Cartri's Mac BIOS Edition to my mobo. The only issue I'm facing now is that Restart is not working as it should, without the OpenHaltRestart.kext in the /E/E folder. I already tried some methods but still no go with restart issue). @stickman1000000000 It's quite strange that you couldn't install OSX to your rig. I know that Radeon GFX are harder to get it working on OSX, but there are plenty of people using it. Maybe some incompatibility with some other hardware like DVD/CD burners, HDD... Gigabyte mobos are very friendly to OSX mainly the Intel chipset based mobos. Cheers, bb. BatcOuntrY
wEll I need someone to helpe installing pc efi so I can have the extra folder there aswell before I restart Download Chameleon from here hxxp://chameleon.osx86.hu/ Download PC EFI v6 from here hxxp://netkas.org/ (the link that says booter) Unzip Chameleon and follow the instructions in doc/README but when you get to the part that says "sudo cp boot /" stop and instead copy the PC EFI boot file to / instead. NOTE: If you have already installed Chameleon you can skip these steps and just copy the PC EFI boot file to /. The Extra folder is something that you create yourself and then you add the kexts to it. stickman1000000
Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the bootloader?? And after I have done this I do what someone suggested above put the fakesmc kext in the extra folder and that's it I'm done?? Also do I try and get my 4890 to work before or after the first reboot Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/213289-need-a-little-help-please/#findComment-1431848 Share on other sites

mumford
How do I get sound working on the ud3l you need to add the legacyhda.kext to the extra/extensions folder. See Carti's manual. Welcome to Snow Leo. About sound, if your mobo uses ALC888 - ICH10 I would recommend using the LegacyHDA.kext (orange version) because it only loads 4 channels and it should load 6 channels if you wanna get 5.1 to work. I tried the legacyHDA.kext and it sucks, at least for me. Cheers, bb.
