Grim Reaper
I have played with VMWare versions of OSX but now because i have an extra machine now I want install fully OS X on my old Dell 8400. It is a stock Dell 8400 with 1GB of ram and a pentium 4 with an NVIDIA graphics card. So what are my options to install OS X on this machine Craighton, I am presently typing this on a Dimension 8400 running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 from a USB Flash drive which I've set the USB device in the BIOS as the first boot device. I will be cloning it to a hard drive but I will be using the USB Flash drive to boot other PCs. The OSX86 distro is iPortable_Snow_86 downloaded from P.B. Just follow the instructions and it will definitely run. I have also used Hazard's Snow Leopard Client Server 10.6.2 SSE2, 3 Intel AMD successfully but it is more difficult to figure out the correct choices of options to get a working OSX86 system. No video drivers are installed but you will have the monitor displaying the desktop in 1024x768 VGA from a VGA or HDMI port on your graphics card. The built-in ethernet won't work (I'm using a Belkin Wireless G USB device (F5D7050B) with drivers from Ralink http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/support.php?s=3 http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/license_us.ph...GxmTVRCZk16QT1D and, depending on what you're using for sound, etc., may not work too but some of that can be made to work by searching around on OSX86 http://www.osx86project.org/ and elsewhere for .kext files (drivers) which work. I am using an Audigy 2 ZS audio board with built-in Firewire, the Firewire works without adding anything but the audio needs drivers which you can get at http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=104797 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&id=61812 You will have to install the correct driver to get your graphics card working with Quartz Extreme, etc., if the driver is capable of enabling that, etc. That should get you going.
