cosmicovertones
Hi, I have a powerbook g4 laptop. It is messed up at the minute but I've been wondering. Would it be possible to gut out most of the internal devices, leave the chassis and display and replace with modern hardware? What are my chances do you think? cringemaster
If you could measure everything out its entirely possible that you may be able to, but I have no idea how the Apple keyboard and trackpad connect to the logic board. If its some type of usb-based connection it shouldnt be impossible. IIRC, the optical drive is atapi, which might not work on some modern laptops. The display would require research, but I'm sure its been done. Like any project, it requires research. If its never been done before, its also going to require at least some trial and error. Google should do the job. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/212186-powerbook-g4-laptop/#findComment-1423199 Share on other sites
banini_jeque
I'm actually not sure, but I think the display connectors are basically the same on macbooks. I just have a hunch. So maybe with some serious internal frame mods, you could put a macbook/macbook pro logic board in it. You could just replace the optical drive with a sata one because they're still the same form factor. apple apple
Sounds like a fun project. You may be able to do it... but honestly have no idea. What do you think about using a netbook motherboard?
