smeared
Hi all. Here's the deal. I bought one of those rosewill 4 bay esata port multiplier enclosures so that I could reuse some old 500gb drives I had lying around. I should have looked on here first to see if it would be compatible. Anyway, I hook everything up, install the PCIe controller card. and boot in. After some searching I find new Silicon Image drivers that are for snow leopard and 64 bit. Great. I installed the one that was Non-raid. No dice. Then I installed the RAID5 one. Immediately mac os x recognized the device. all four bay lights lit up, all was gravy. I formatted them all as one large striped raid, as this is my back up, I don't need, or want raid 5. I thought everything was good. I started to back up files, and it stopped after a couple minutes. So I reboot. When I get back in, my usbs aren't working. Some are, some aren't. The ports on the back of my display namely. Then I noticed some on the motherboard weren't either. But I was able to successfully transfer 6 gigs to the rosewill. So I'm not convinced it's not working. Then things got very weird. I removed the silicon image drivers because I need my usb first and foremost. Went to restart, and then my overclock, which has been completely stable for 2-3 weeks failed. Namely, my memOK light didn't even light up. So i defaulted bios, and booted up. Same issue with the usb. What else does that silicon image 3132 install change? Right now, I'm jsut trying to fix my install as I mucked it up somehow. Thank goodness for back ups. but still.. what a pain. So if anyone has any idea how I should proceed that would be great. I'd prefer not to return the rosewill enclosure, but if I can't use it.. Maybe this is as simple as it replacing my usb kext? ok thanks a lot. forgot my specs: Asus p6x58d premium i7 920 12gb dominator gtx 260 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/212181-sli-3132-pcie-controller-question/ Share on other sites
smeared
just for future reference. I've determined that it seems to only have an issue when I use superduper. It fails half way through transferring and at that point I'm not able to access any of my drives. So I just dumped superduper, and carbon cloner works fine.. so I guess it's application specific.
