I have a similar problem that I think might be like yours but this doesn't happen often but it does occasionally.. My mouse locks up and my keyboard lights go off as if all USB connections are dead but the system is still functional. I can see the time change and my backgrounds will still rotate out if I have it set to the slideshow desktop.

The weirdest thing for me right now and I don't know why.. I can boot into Mac 10.6 without a problem sometimes and sometimes I have to try 3 or 4 times. When I run it in -v (verbos mode?) I can see it hangs on Firewire detecting security mode... I also notice it stops on the ACPI as well, but if I keep restarting it will make it through and everything will run fine after that.

I have a Intel Core Duo 2.97gig, 4 gig of 800mhz ram, nvidia gefore 9800gx2 1028mb card and a Asus P5N-D board. I would appreciate any help on what you think could be the problem for either of these issues as well.

I have set everything to Never under the powersaver options if thats what you mean by disable. I don't see anything to disable the options completely. I cannot turn off the ACPI in the BIOS options, it is set to S1 and S3. If I run in maxmem=2048 it boots more often cause I guess it buys it more time before it "times out".

Thanks for the ideas.
