X!N
I followed the guide and got this working so I was able to boot 10.6 from my 8GB usb stick. My issue is that I want to do the same to get 10.6 running from my hdd instead of usb stick. SO I basically repeated the steps in the guide (preparing partition with master boot, then restoring image to partition using copycatx) however after that I have been unable to boot from the hdd (yes I changed the setting sin Bios aswell to boot from hdd). Any tips as to what I'm doing wrong? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/211875-iportable-snow-by-protocol-x/#findComment-1421508 Share on other sites
X!N
Just FYI, I did also try the bootfix supplied which didn't help for the hdd install (worked for the usb install though). Im trying a new method having read elsewhere about how to restore the SL installer onto a HDD. This time I made the partition with GUID (not master boot) and am restoring from my installation on a 8GB usb key. Not sure what the result will be yet (still copying files over). lunux
probably you have to install in a different partition, but keeping active your pre-existing Mac OS, to have different choices at the moment of booting from internal HDD. Actually it worked!! I now have iportable booting from hdd (usb removed) after I restored usb installation image to GUID partitioned hdd. Then I applied bootifx and that was all I had to do. It boots from hdd. Just a few things I need to fix for instance I can not see 'About This Mac' - goes to blue screen and then back to desktop. ratvn
Hi, Are you running it in a USB or in your hard drive? Was there a step to compile DSDT file? Completed and no errors? Have you check your BIOS settings to see anything about ACPI? I don't know much about KP troubleshooting but there seem a line for it. Also there a bug in SL that will reset your BIOS back to default values so double check your BIOS settings again. May need some additional kexts to make it go through. Just some suggestions. Regards, Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/211875-iportable-snow-by-protocol-x/#findComment-1442215 Share on other sites

Chemicalrubber
Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I followed the instructions to restore iPortable onto a newly-formatted USB hard drive using Copycat and installed the bootfix and checked the bootflags, but the computer is still stuck on a blinking cursor! The first time I tried (without reformatting the hard disk), there was a 'missing operating system' error. Was the original iPortable image corrupt, or is it a problem with the computer?
