soemo
I've been wading through Hackint0sh and Insanely Mac for the past couple of days trying to pick out some compatible parts for a "Mac Pro." I have a 3 year old Macbook Pro, I love it, but want to get a faster desktop for all my design shizzle. Having the OS and my core apps on a SSD is also very appealing to me. I'd like this thing to last me a few years but I'd also like the ability to upgrade. I'd appreciate it if someone could vet my part choices, particularly the video card. I will be running 2 x Dell U2410 monitors. Stability and reliability are important to me, I need a system that works and this is what's putting me off Hackintosh ever so slightly. I want a vanilla install with very high compatibility and access to Software Update. invisiblesurfer
Looks great mate, one thing I would change would be the nVidia 250 (just buy the 285 and get it over with) and some more memory since it's cheap (12gigs ideally). EricM
^^ The gts 250 is $130 and the gtx285 is almost $400! Its extreme overkill if you ask me and a waste of money. 6GB of ram will be MORE than enough. Please do not listen to this guy trying to make you spend more money. I'm researching install methods at the minute and looking for a very compatible video card with working dual outputs. I'll search around a bit more, but I'm leaning towards the gt250. I'm rocking a cheap ati 4670 and have fully working qe/ci dual display on two 24's. I don't game so who cares how powerful it is. Also, unless you run a ton of virtual machines or something, 6 gig should be fine... I want to throw 6 more gigs at mine to make 12 gig, but i typically have a win xp and win 7 virtual machine running at any given time while using quite a few programs natively. I'm addicted to expose and spaces, what can i say!
