I'm wondering what the best way to backup my hackintosh was.

I've tried using a copy of carbon copy cleaner and then reinstalling the bootloader to the drive. However there were a few issues - littlesnitch seemed to have forgotten all of my initial firewall rules, a random picture was opening on startup, it was booting up fairly slowly.

What would happen if I used Disk Utility to restore my drive to the second harddrive and then reinstalled the bootloader?

Thanks

Hi ilia,

I just solved this matter following trwooley directives from http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1403421

In my words:

1) Make a clone of your bootup disk with CCC.

2) Reboot.

3) During the booting up process press F12 (I have a GA-EX58-UD5 mother with F9 BIOS version). It will show a window (very DOS) that allows you to choose from which Hard Disk boot.

4) Select the SCSI address of the clone disk.

Voila! You are now booting from your backup disk.

I also use Little Snich and I didn't detect any differences from the booting from my main disk.

Also, it was not necessary to install any bootloader at all. CCC copy it from the original disk to the backup one.

As a maintenance routine I would CCC once per week (or once per day, if you want. At the end of the day. Incremental way, so it would demand very few minutes).

Good luck ilia.
