Forcing a higher screen resolution (1680x1050)?

I've been using SL 10.6.2 for a while now, and have had great success and fun with it. However, there is one issue that seems to be the only thing left to solve.

Basically, as I have a HD5870, it's unsupported. I can understand that, and I don't expect it to be supported for a while yet unfortunately. If I try "GraphicsEnabler=y" at boot, my computer simply turns into what sounds like a jet engine preparing for take-off and my computer freezes.

Anyway, ever since I started using SL 10.6.2, I've been stuck at 1400x1050. It's the only resolution available to choose. I've tried setting a "Graphics Mode" = 1680x1050x32@60 (and without the @60), although this doesn't change anything.

I've tried using SwitchResX 4, although that doesn't seem to do anything either.

Is there anyway I can force the resolution to go higher? Currently this is my display info. The information (such as VRAM) isn't correct, but it works, although I am left with this single 1400x1050 resolution, while I want 1680x1050.

Display:

 Type:	GPU
 Bus:	PCIe
 PCIe Lane Width:	x16
 VRAM (Total):	256 MB
 Vendor:	ATI (0x1002)
 Device ID:	0x6898
 Revision ID:	0x0000
Kernel Extension Info:	No Kext Loaded
 Displays:
SwitchResX4 - Unknown Monitor:
 Resolution:	1400 x 1050
 Pixel Depth:	32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
 Main Display:	Yes
 Mirror:	Off
 Online:	Yes

Additional info if it's any help:

Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD3R

Display: ASUS MW221A (22" 1680x1050)

Graphics Card: ASUS EAH5870 1GB

Other components are probably irrelevant in this.

You wont get 1680x1050 before there is a supported driver.

I think it is even strange you get 1400x1050 as normal when you have a unsupported gfx then you only get 1024x768.

Ah okay, thanks for the quick reply.

I thought there would be a solution only because I also found it strange that I had 1400x1050 and thought that there may have been an alternative to reaching a higher value. It does seem to detect some kind of ATI card, I just haven't figured out how it seems to get this, as there are no ATI related kexts installed.

Do you use Chameleon 2.0 RC Bootlader?

You can try type ?video , it will list what resolution your video card can support(VESA3.0)

The "Graphics Mode" parameter maybe only accept the resolution value on the list.

My video card run on windows can use 1400x900x32@60 , but when I type ?video under Chameleon 2.0 RC Bootlader , the list no such resolution.
