thefighter
Mac Information: Model: iMac Model Number: iMac7,1 OS Version: 10.4.11 Processor: 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memory: 1GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (One slot free) Graphics Chipset: ATI Radeon HD2400 128MB According to MacCPUID: Genuine Intel Processor: Yes Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 2.00GHz Family: 6 (06h) Model: 15 (0Fh) Stepping: 10 (0Ah) Hello everybody, long time since I grazed this site. Currently, I have a Mac running 10.4.11, working fine with no problems. But I want an upgrade at long last. Now, I read somewhere (Here actually - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10271723) that the Mac above will not support a Snow Leopard installation? Its an Intel processor and will run 64bit on any other operating system, what is it that is holding it back from not working here? The reason for asking, is I want to buy a cheap license to upgrade to 10.5 then immediately up to 10.6 Here states that you only need 1GB of RAM - http://www.apple.com/uk/macosx/specs.html Here states that I would need to buy a much more expensive pack to upgrade straight from 10.4 to 10.6 - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/p...ts-overlay.html Does anybody have the answer as to why this confusion is about? Is it possible to upgrade at all? Thank you in advance guys, TheFighter Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/209982-10411-106-upgrade-question/ Share on other sites
UnaClocker
You can install the $30 version of Snow Leopard on that machine, no problem. It'll have to be a fresh install, it won't be able to upgrade from 10.4. The $30 version of Snow Leopard, while it is called an "Upgrade" version, will not do anything to confirm that you really are upgrading, and not doing something like, say, installing it on a PC.. thefighter
Yeah, when I mean update I ordinarily mean just a clean fresh wipe like I would with my PC's. So it will work? Why is it that Apple says you should buy the more expensive Mac Box Set? Just to get the money from you from iLife 09? I'll be guessing the Update version of Snow Leopard doesn't include it then. Cheers for your help though, there is just a bit of mud in the information.
