As always, I would suggest an i-something but that build will cost you around $550 with an i3... I would highly recommend spedning the little extra so you don't have to get an lga 775 mobo/cpu as its old technology and on the way out. Just foolish to buy now. With that said, I can offer you a full build if you want for about $550, if not, then I can piece together a 775 build.

I'm lazy to post links.

Thanks for the reply, what's the price difference for a 775 build?

the Core 2 Duo series is on it's way out, however, Apple built a lot of those machines. Everything from a Mac Mini, to the iMac since 2006/2007 so Apple won't be abandoning those users anytime soon.

With that said, if your going to spend 400 to 500 and you don't want any update issues, you would be better off, spending the extra cash for a Mac Mini. The resale value on those is incredible, you could turn around and sell it a couple years later for the same price as you bought it. Maybe more if you put more memory and a bigger hard drive in it during the course of using it. I constantly see Mac Mini's being sold for very close to brand new prices on all Mac retail sites and ebay. I have even seen dead ones go for a couple hundred dollars. Think of it as an investment....

Good Luck...

Its been my experience that if you go hackintosh, it pure just for hobby and play, if your using it for business applications, getting the real deal is highly recommended unless your an experienced hachintosher and can fix your system crashes on the fly, last think you want is to do an update and create a kernel panic during crunch time of a project
