I am running 10.4.6 native on the following system:

Intel D845BG Motherboard Bios v P08

P-4 2.0 (SSE2)

Soundmax on-board audio

I orignally installed from the JaS DVD into VMWare 5.5... most things worked, but slow, so I moved it to a seperate HD (using Ghost 2003) to boot natively... this REALLY improved the speed. Not sure if this is the problem, so I thought I would mention it just in case.

I have everything working great with one exception... The audio (iTunes, Quicktime, etc) is "too fast" (i.e. men's voices sound like women's etc).

I have gone into the audio settings and set my format at 44100.0 hz (was 48000.0) on both the input and output but this change has no effect (even after multiple reboots).

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I fear that I may have the wrong AppleAC97Audio.kext file... Here are the details from that file:

Size - 608kb (549,552 bytes on disk)

Date - 11/25/05 @ 2:33am

Version - 1.0.0 Copyright Apple Computer, Inc. 2004

Thanks again... hope someone can help

i am having the same problem. i also have an intel motherboard, although i cannot remember the exact model (im almost positive it was D845 something). my onboard sound is simply listed as AC'97 from the device manager in windows.

my AppleAC97Audio.kext is 312KB, version 1.0.0

im running os x v10.4.6, a fresh install on its own hdd.

where exactly were you able to change your sample rate formats? i cant find the option in audio prefs.

You can set your sample rate format in Applications->Utilities->Audio Midi Setup->Audio Devices

If you can see input but not output, then change the "Properties For" to the other "AC97 Audio (PCM)" option... This should give you output settings. My input and output settings were both 48000.0 and changing them to 44100.0 had no effect... please let me know if you have success changing to the correct bit-rate.

thanks for the reply.

unfortunately it didnt help me, either. i changed to 41000 and rebooted, and it still plays way too fast.

interestingly, i have encountered this problem a few years ago with some dell computers at my school. obviously they were running under windows, though. a simple patch from intel fixed it. lemme see if i can locate the info page on that patch from intel, maybe it can give us a clue as to what is causing this.

all i found from intel was an updated INF to fix the problem. my guess is there is a simple setting in the kext that can be changed, although i have no idea how to do that.

interestingly, if you go into the system profiler, under dependencies for AppleAC97Audio, there is a dependencies error. im not really sure what that means, but i tried to repair permission as recommended in another thread (although that person had no audio whatsoever), but it had no effect.

if i find anything ill post it here.
