I have a Thermaltake Tower 112 cu that is completely monstrous. It used to sit on top of a 3.2Ghz Prescott P4 and do a good job at bringing the temp down. I'm going to build my next hackintosh into a G5 case and i'm worried that the weight of the heatsink alone will make the motherboard tray bend or warp. I plan on using the aluminum matx Lian-Li tray to mount the motherboard to. I'll just cut out the back of the G5 and pop-rivet the tray to the back, leaving the tray to kind of float in the case. Right now i have an e8400 but in the future I'll be upgrading to some Core 2 Quad. The heatsink is right around 3.5-4 pounds. Is this overkill?

no, the weight isn't a huge issue.

Although you can find better heatsinks that weigh less, and have more performance at this point, so it would be worth going that route. The solid copper nature of that heatsink is what makes it so freaking heavy.

Look for one that's Aluminum with a copper base.

That is freaking massive. In my G5 case I have Thermalright HR-01 that's a little smaller than that and provides idles at 35-40 and load at nothing over 55. Its relatively light and completely passive...the one you've got might be overkill IMO if you're thinking about size vs. performance.
