marine5537
Ok, so...I have finally got my laptop to actually boot up in os x. Now, i need to install all the extras to get the sound, airport, ect. working. The problem is, it asks me for the admin name and password! I thought i knew what it was, and i dont know why it would have changed, but it somehow did. I've read online that to get your password you can reboot and hold apple + s. but i dont think that will work on mine, already tried it. So my question is.....Does anyone know how to reset the password on a hackintosh? I'm a noob at this, so go easy on me! srs5694
The administrative account on OS X is "root", but this account is disabled by default on OS X. Instead, the first account you define (and maybe others, too) are set up as authorized to do administrative tasks. Usually, when OS X asks for a password to do something, it means your ordinary user password, so you may want to try that. If it's really asking for the root password, then that means that somebody enabled this account. If it was you, try to remember the password you used. I'm sure there are ways to break into your own computer if you've forgotten the root password, but offhand I don't know what they are for OS X. If it's asking for the root password and you did not enable the root account, then it's possible that somebody else has broken into your computer. I suspect that there's another explanation for what's going on in your case, but you should take even a remote possibility of a break-in very seriously. I'm afraid I'm not an expert on OS X security, so I can't point you to any references, but you should look into the matter. In a worst-case scenario, you might need to reinstall OS X to eliminate all traces of the intrusion. muchlife
always include more info about your hardware and osx install if you want help We don't know what version of 10.5 leopard your on. is it 10.5.2 ? 10.5.6? Did you use iAtkos? iPC? iDeneb? what install distro did you use? What laptop are you using? When your installing applications or editing files in extensions folder, it should be asking you the password you setup when you were finalizing your installation. When it asks what language, what keyboard, your timezone, etc. This is where it asks you to create a user account and asks you to enter a password then verify that password.
