Moop
I am fully aware of the fact that in order to dual-boot a hacked copy of Mac OS X and Windows XP on non-Apple hardware doesn't require Boot Camp, but I was wondering four things. 1. Is it possible to still use Boot Camp on non-Apple hardware solely to dynamically partition the hard drive (and to allow the option of removing the XP partition altogether)? 2. Is it possible to JUST install the start-up disk utility from the Boot Camp drivers CD onto non-Apple based XP installations. If not, is it possible to install the entire drivers CD onto non-Apple based XP installations (and just disable the drivers)> 3. If the answer to 2 is, in any way, "yes", would it be possible to JUST use the start-up disk utility in both operating systems to switch between them like was done with machines capable of booting into both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X (i.e. not need an additional bootloader like Grub)? 4. If the answer to 3 is "no", would it be possible to add Windows XP to OSX86's Windows-like operating systems menu that appears at the startup? If not, is the inverse possible? Antman
1. Is it possible to still use Boot Camp on non-Apple hardware solely to dynamically partition the hard drive (and to allow the option of removing the XP partition altogether)? Answer: No currently Boot camp will not work on non apple hardware but there is an EFI Project currently working on this issue. 2. Is it possible to JUST install the start-up disk utility from the Boot Camp drivers CD onto non-Apple based XP installations. If not, is it possible to install the entire drivers CD onto non-Apple based XP installations (and just disable the drivers)> Answer: Well you can extract the drivers from the msi installer package and use the ones you want but I have tried the Startup Disk utility for Control panel and it was very unhappy and would not work. The Bluetooth drivers were useable on my Moto USB Bluetooth adapter and the Video Drivers are same as what ya get from ATI and sound setup is same as well from web site.. 3. If the answer to 2 is, in any way, "yes", would it be possible to JUST use the start-up disk utility in both operating systems to switch between them like was done with machines capable of booting into both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X (i.e. not need an additional bootloader like Grub)? Answer: Start-Up Disk utility is part of the EFI Boot camp loader and is not usable. 4. If the answer to 3 is "no", would it be possible to add Windows XP to OSX86's Windows-like operating systems menu that appears at the startup? If not, is the inverse possible? Answer: Not sure about that but all it does it turn the partition active. I dont believe this will be possible. your better off just getting the Boot loader you like and making it work for your begining start up.
