mekosx
Hi, I've installed OSX 10.6 from a retail DVD some time ago. Now I'd like to upgrade it, but i suppose it's not going to be as easy as downloading combo update and installing it. So - what should I do to upgrade my installation without harming my hackintosh? My specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3Ghz Gigabyte P43-ES3G (with P43/ICH10 chipset) 2GB DDR2 RAM 800Mhz GeForce 8800GT 512MB 3x500GB SATA Drive + 1xSATA DVD-RW writer Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/208972-how-to-upgrade-from-106-to-1062/ Share on other sites

Thanks in advance Good advice in this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...47#entry1295728 In short, you CAN upgrade with the downloaded COMBO 10.6.2 updater. BUT you need a way to get the patched kernel (see thread) written into the system BEFORE the computer reboots (which the update installer will do). This is the problem. For me, using the very most recent Chameleon (as noted in thread) allowed the bootloader to "intercept" the problem - it recognizes the new system is 10.6.2 and checks the kernel and if not the patched one, will load the patched kernel instead. Voila. Is like magics. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/208972-how-to-upgrade-from-106-to-1062/#findComment-1396827 Share on other sites
ridgeline
Just a note I installed with the specs below of a retail disc and just used software update. make sure the sleep enabler kext is removed though. after update you can find a new sleep enabler kext at kexts.com for 10.6.2 I have not had a single issue, what was your install method? dwfmagik
Hey there everyone. i've spent the last week or two doing SO much reading into running a snow leopard on my system and have it almost ready to consider 'finished' - I've got it installed with vmware, i've got sound, networks, shared folders, programs installed and just about everything, APART from my Nvidia 8800gts 640meg graphics card. So far, and I've tried a whole heap of different things, it only appears like this; http://f.imagehost.org/0086/Untitled-2.jpg which I know isn't correct. After reading up over thousands of redundant and irrelevant posts, I've managed to deduce that it IS possible to get my 8800gts to show up as installed, along with opengl + all the benefits (which I need as the only reason I'm installing this is to learn final cut pro + avid) and to do that I need NVEnabler.Kext & NVEnabler64.kext. So, that trail has led me here and boy, what a long and confusing thread it is! I've downloaded both the ktexts, reinstalled everything so that I have a completely fresh snow leopard installation. What I'm hoping is that someone is kind enough to supply a guide on how to install this 'BFG 8800GTS 640MB GDDR3 DVI PCI-E' Graphics Card so that it works correctly within the system. To find out more about the card : http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr88640gtsoc2e.aspx thank you so much. Ashtefere
Hi guys. I have a similar problem. I have OSX 10.6.0 SERVER installed and working perfectly! I want to update it to 10.6.2. I have downloaded the SERVER combo update and it wont install (says doesnt meet the system requirements) When I use software update, the option for 10.6.3 works and installs perfectly - BUT I get the slow graphics performance issues. This is a dealbreaker as we use aqua connect with our server - meaning that the VNC window becomes REALLY laggy when we update to 10.6.3. Apparently this doesnt happen with 10.6.2. So, what do I do to be able to install 10.6.2. for snow leopard SERVER? Is there something I have to edit or change to allow the update to install? Can I force an install? This is with empire efi + i7 and 4870 version, and retail snow leopard server disk. Thanks!!! -Ash Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/208972-how-to-upgrade-from-106-to-1062/#findComment-1462452 Share on other sites
