Toshiba M400 (or other Toshiba) Snow Leopard retail installation ? Who succeded in it ?

Hi,

is there anyone who succeded installing Snow Leopard on Toshiba M400 tablet laptop ?

It's a bit old (core duo 1.83 ghz) and its bios is quite {censored} , and if you want to enter bios you must press esc , then F1.... similar to Toshiba M200 laptop, Tecra M5 laptop and many others...

Using Boot-132 method , chameleon boot loader fails to load and it locks up before chameleon starts.

I don't know any other method for installing snow leopard or perhaps some modified boot-132 is needed to let it work on these "older" toshiba laptops. I tried everything, but it still locks up before chameleon starts.

I even tried to load a snow leopard installed harddrive that works fine and load fine on a Toshiba A100-017 (one of the most compatible vanilla-notebook i've ever seen) but trying to boot it from m400, kernel panics (also with cpus=1 , arch=i386 -v options and so on).

Any help, please?

Thanks!

Mal

I have made several attemps to install SL on my Toshiba Satellite P105 S6024. I use the Empire EFI boot loader and everything starts just fine. I put the efi disk in, switch to SL and the verbose install starts. Install runs for 5 minutes or so and then goes in to a GUI interface. That is where I have problems. The screen turns white with nothing else on it and the installation contiues. after a couple minutes the dvd stops and i have hit the enter key and the install continues. I have no idea what its doing because nithing is diplayed on the screen. I am still searching for answers...

Hi, any news on installing snow leopard on Toshiba M400 tablet ? I am having error in firewire (unable to get device memory) then kernel panic trying to install from retail installation dvd.

I tried both multicore enabled or disabled in bios. it's not possible to disable firewire (and i need it... in leopard it works well).

thanks!

When you are at the Chameleon boot loader, press the FN function key and F5 to cycle through all the display out modes. I usually press FN + F5 3 or 4 times and then boot with graphics into Snow Leopard. Your screen will work. I believe I also installed the 10.4.8 framebuffer to enable quartz extreme and hardware acceleration.

Use Empire EFI (legacy) disk and Snow Leopard retail. Be sure to do the video FN+F5 trick I described above.

hi,

i did a successfull installation on snow leopard in m400 using your suggestions.

Now i have 2 problems :

1) video does not work : black screen internal display whileit works perfectly on external display (through vga connector)

2) i cannot boot without removing iofirewire* kexts and ioatafamily.kext . With them inside SLE the system cannot boot and it gives me kp.

Does anyone know how to solve such problems ?

Thanks!

Sorry for late reply. Did you get your M400 video to work? I didn't have your #2. What model M400? What bios? Did it come with XP or Vista?
