Milanche78 Posted January 12, 2010 Share Posted January 12, 2010 I have been prepared the cash for my new bulid based on GA-EP45-UD3LR and C2D combination, when I saw these new Intel CPUs. I did some reading and they suppose to be better but not that much and I do not know if that is worth of waiting to make them work with Snow Leopard. On the other hand it is a new vs old ( almost a year) technology. I really do not know what to do. Hello, Let's put it like this, with my configuration (view spec. bellow) I get in GeekBench x64 around 6100. Now, my friend who bough a newest Intel i5 Core and Gigabyte motherboard got around 8000 - 9000. I think that older Core 2 generation is actually a best buy for hackintosh. Ofcourse, if money isn't problem then go for newer components ; ) My conf: Intel Core 2 Quad q9300 Abit IP35 Pro Geforce 8600GT 2x 250GB etc. etc I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 and 10.6.2 installed, everything works amazing fast. As I mentioned above, 6100 in GeekBench isn't that bad for older CPU ; ) Cheers! Look how far the q6600 got beat and the e8400. If you buy LGA775 right now, your setting yourself up for hurt. Your not future proofing yourself by buying technology over 2 years old. On top of that, you may be upgrading in another year so why not buy NEW technology now and not be down the road with a dated pc. As far as compatibility, look at how many people are using i5... Eric, don't be a smartass... Cinebench shows the same thing that I said up above, non-overclocked' i5 is 30 % faster than Core 2 Quad ; ) and the must important thing, cinebench tests 3D! About pricing, one thing is to buy from web and another from retail store. Ofcourse, everything depends from where are you buying. I noticed that you have i5 too, that explains your childish behaviour but next time try reading the full post. I DID NOT write that Core 2 Quad is better. @milanche buying i3 isn't that better than older series. Much better choice is i5. I was referring on his previous reply ; ) What intrigues me about i3 is the ability to run integrated video. I'm not going to be playing any brand new games in the foreseeable future in Windows 7 so that's money saved on a video card.
