DaveVegas
Got my G41M today! So after I installed Win 7 I tried to install Snow Leopard! Unfortenatly my Boot123 had an error and I dont know why (Going to try it with -v parameter) so yeah I wanted to install Chameleon but now I have a .pkg file and dont know what to do with it. Help me please? PS: My 8GB ram is working, but in the post (Prebooting) there is always "Running Ram in Single channel" what does thismean? Zaap
Describe exactly what you're doing with the Boot-132 and what happens, because as you must know, there's a procedure to follow. It's hard to say what's going wrong if you don't give more details on the actual process. That's weird that your RAM would read single-channel. There's only two slots- I'm assuming you have a 4GB stick in each slot, right? If they are matching sticks, it should read as dual-channel. How does Win 7 (I'm assuming x64?) report the RAM? If you're using x86 (32-bit) Windows 7 then it won't see more than 3GB of RAM anyway. DaveVegas
So my RAM problem was solved. Now it's dual channel and my Win 7 64x says 8GB ram. So the exact thing I'm doing is this: I insert the Boot-123 CD and then I start my PC. When my PC starts to boot I hit F12 to get to the Boot Menu. I select the CD-Rom/DVD option. Then this comes up: Darwin blablabla Boot with -v or ? Boot: _ So I open up the CD and insert the Retail Snow Leopard. Then I hit -v and enter. Then this comes up: Do you want to boot from 80 (First HD) or 81 (Second HD) Press two hexidemicals blabla: _ Then I hit 80 (When I hit 81 it come back to the Darwin blablabla Boot:_) so yeah then I can choose my HD and then Windows starts to boot -.- I also tried to boot the cd without changing the cd's there. It's the same thing.. What can I do? DaveVegas
So I tried to install iAktos v7 again (since my retail installation didnt work) so yeah I installed it succesfully.. (Before that Kalyway failed) BUT When I start the pc, leopard is only booting with -v -x -s -f (dont know why) and then when I finally get to the "Configure your Mac" window it freezez after some time. (tried it several times) So I installed XP on my PC (64 bit) since Windows 7 and Vista were FULL of freakin bluescreens all the time. PS: I couldnt resist against a wonderfull 2TB Hardrive at a computer store so I bought a Hitachi 3.5 7200 Hardrive (and a 1GB GT220 graphic card) Dave Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/206302-will-my-hardware-handle-it/page/2/#findComment-1395149 Share on other sites
Zaap
80 or 81 are for the hard drive. You need to boot from the DVD drive in order to install leopard. Does it even follow you'd be booting a hard drive BEFORE you've installed OSX on it? Look for the hex code for your DVD drive- it's something like 'fe' or something. Follow a guide and pay attention to all the specific details. Also, if you're getting blue screens in a legit install of Windows 7, you've got a hardware problem. Download, burn and run memtest on your RAM, it's sounding more and more like it's faulty. DaveVegas
Hey zaap, thanks for the fast response! How do I see the hex code for my DVD? I already did a memtest and everything is fine. The bluescreens where all because of my Geforce 8800 GTS 512 (driver fail or something like that) so yeah the drivers fo 64 bit in win 7 are unstable. Anyways what do you mean by "Does it even follow you'd be booting a hard drive BEFORE you've installed OSX on it?" ? When I start the computer its booting from my harddrive, yes. When I press F12 I select DVD and it starts booting from the DVD, but then out of nowhere it wants a hexidemical CODE from me. I printed out the G31M tutorial and I´m following every single step by this tutorial and unfortenatly I fail at step 1 -.- What can I do? I dont get it. PS: I burned another Boot 123 doesnt work with this cd too. DaveVegas
Hey zaap, you were right, my ramsticks were damaged so yeah everything was quite unstable and stuff. It looks like this: I have installed (succesfully!) windows 7 with my 4GB ram sticks and everything is just FINE. Now I have only 2x2GB (4GB) ram but hey, unless its working right? Now I've made a new partition called MAC HD. Yeah and now, I have to figure out how to get my Boot123 and Retail Leopard working! I dont want to install any freaky iAktos or so because I bought Snow Leopard so I want to boot form it! Can you give me a link to any GUIDE wherer it is specificated how to do the Boot123 part? DaveVegas
So, I got good and bad news. The good ones first: I tried to boot with the Boot123 CD and then I bootet with "9f" hexidemical code (Saw it on youtube) and it worked! Bad News: I got stuck on "Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 422f700." So yeah I found this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=183074 But I havent found any solution yet. DaveVegas
Hey guys, amazing news! So I gave up installing Mac Os X with the retail way. I bootet again with iAtkos v7 and it installed succesfully. Here comes the awesome part. Right after installation I boot up. And everything works! My nvidia card works (with 2 monitors) my sound works aswell and my internet works aswell! (I write this in safari =D) Even my Ps/2 keyboard works! The only thing which is quite wierd is, everytime i get to the taskbar (the upper taskbar) it freezez. For example when I want to click on the little apple icon the window comes up but it freezez. I dont know what to do! When I dont come near to the upper task bar nothing happens and everything is stable. I tried to boot with cpus=1 but same thing... What should I do? Dave Fortunately the bug stopped. Everything is fine now! Seems everything is getting to a good end! One little question: The CTRL is now ALT how can I change that? Dave Unfortenatly the bug didnt stop after all. Now I know that it's not because of my task bar. My machine just freezez randomly. Like you can work 20 minutes with it and it freezez and then when you boot again it freezez after 1 minute.. what can i do?? Zaap
When you're able to work in OSX, use it to create a proper snow leopard usb-stick installer following the Lifehacker 'no hacking required' guide. You're probably experiencing freezes due to all sorts of potential problems- the distro methods are old school. You have to select just the right combination of drivers, but even so, the older methods of installing drivers/graphics aren't the best way- graphic strings and properly created smbios and DSDT files are. (There are plenty of guides on all of these). Also, even though they may technically 'work' using legacy hardware like your PS/2 keyboard (and IDE drives if you have any) often cause all sorts of problems as modern Macs don't use these things. I agree with Zaap. Best thing you can do is create yourself a proper usb stick installer and dump that iAtkos install. Really, you don't want to run that considering your hardware can run retail OS X. Also, are you sure you aren't having hardware troubles? The problems you mention with locking up sounds a lot like hardware issues. While I don't like distro versions of OS X, I can't help but think its unrelated to your locks ups considering the troubles you were experiencing in Win 7 and Vista. You still running that 8800 GTS video card? You mentioned before that you thought the issue was drivers in Win 7. My experience with 64 bit Win 7 is that the Nvidia drivers are stable and shouldn't be causing random blue screening. Personally, I think either your video card is about to go {censored} up, or some other component in your machine is causing this issue. You need to really resolve that first. DaveVegas
Hey guys. Thank you. I installed iAtkos again and then I found out that I chose a wrong driver component which caused kernel panic. Well, now my audio and video is working but my internet is gone. I chose Realtek1000 in driver section. I tried to install Realtek1000.kext but I still dont have any internet. What should I do? @Broken: I found out that my 8gb ramsticks were damaged after i did a memtest. After I changed them win 7 never gave any bluescreens and problems. So it is not because of hardware issues anymore Thanks you guys. Dave PS: No freezes yet since 3 hours Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/206302-will-my-hardware-handle-it/page/2/#findComment-1396775 Share on other sites
DaveVegas
Amazin news. I used the USB installation method and now I have finally installed my Snow Leopard retail version to my pc! But I have still some problems. Exept my graphic everything is not working. My internet is not working aswell as my audio. I already downloaded Realtek100.kext and Alc888.kext and put it into the Extensions folder and then ran Kext Utility. By the way: In "About my Mac" there are wierd things for example that I have a Xeon intel CPU but I have a Quad Core etc.. I used the DSDT from this GUIDE http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=182655 aswell as the audio kexts and lan kexts... what should I do???
