Thought I'd post this, maybe it'll make it into google's search results. Maybe it'll come in handy for someone in the future. First, some info about the machine/distro..

PC Chip P17G board, I think there are several other companies that use this same board with their name on it (such as ECS), it's an Intel 945 based board, I'm using the onboard GMA950 video. No PCI cards at all.

As for the distro, it's iAtkos 7i, used just about only the default settings, aside from adding the SATA drivers and RTL1000 drivers. Oh, and used the desktop GMA950 drivers, not an EFI string. Upgrade it to 10.5.8 (smooth upgrade with no problems, had to re-install the GMA drivers after the upgrade, the comments in the installer explain how). I upgraded to the latest RC version of Chameleon. I didn't need OHR because the system had no problems shutting down or rebooting when told to. I did install the 10.5.8 sleep enabler. Unfortunately, while the system would go to sleep, it would power itself RIGHT BACK UP, so fast the fans/drives hadn't even spun down. I've encountered that with laptops running OSX before, it was due to improperly set USB settings.. Well I went through the BIOS on this thing flipping just about every toggle this way and that. Nothing helped.

I finally nailed it down today. I was moving the motherboard into a new case, and noticed a USB Standby power jumper. I moved it to the other position. Bingo! Problem solved. The computer now sleeps correctly. It will not wake from sleep via the keyboard or mouse, obviously, but pressing the power button brings it back to a usable desktop in less than a second. :)

And yes, everything seems to work fine on waking, sound and all.

So the summary is.. Check the USB standby power jumper on the motherboard if your machine wakes immediately after going to sleep. :)
