alf3
Hi I want to buy pc to run mac osx on it. this mashine will be only for music making(Logic) , no internet , no games . I don't know yet , which leopard is better . So , I need help with choosing hardware . the main question is which motherboard to choose ? Will the onboard graphic cards , like X4500 work on mac osx or not ? It will work with monitor 1920X1200 res. Which chipset ? which company ? Asus ? gigabyte ? (or special model that works perfect ?) I want to put on it 5300 dual core , will it work or core 2 duo only working on mac osx ? I seen a lot of topics about that , but I don't want to enter to the "world of hackintosh" . just wanna install and start using logic , you know... not problems with instalation and so on... I hope you understand me with my little english , Thank you ! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/205695-building-a-mashine-for-logic/ Share on other sites
LogicalUser
for the most part, onboard graphics will not work. Specifically, the X4500 does not work, nor does the GMA3100 used in the G31 boards. People choose the G31 & G41 based boards because they are small & cheap, not for the video out. Gigabyte is popular, as most of their boards use sound/ethernet that is OSX compatible. a Pentium dual core E5300 will work fine, really it is a Core 2 Duo with a different sticker on the box, same design & architecture. I have an E5200 behind me, and built a E6300 machine a week or two back. IMO one of the gigabyte G41 or P45 based boards would be your best bet to pair with an E5300. joshier
If you're using logic then I would get a very good sound card, the best one you can get that works under OSX. ( see http://www.audio-evolution.com/drivers/ for some available drivers ) I wouldn't go with kingston, I would choose crucial or corsair for ram. antec and seasonic are good power supplies (seasonic are very quiet, good for audio pc's because it's annoying hearing fans) that 35$ more may save you a lot of hassle. I'm not experienced on osx86 instillations too much but from sensible logic - it's a wise idea to go with what everyone else is using.
