Joolay
GOOD NEWS for some! I found the mysterious Ralink kext that some have reported working! Im starting this new thread as the old threads seem to have been forgotten or ignored.. BUT We really NEED the HELP of a DEVELOPER or someone with basic knowledge on editing kexts! This is what I know so far: The new RT61 kext is only for PowerPC architecture so will never work on hackintoshes.. There was an old driver released in 2006 that was made to be Universal.. Some people reported success with these kexts on their hackintoshes a while back.. but they disappear and never post replies when asked further details like which OSX version they were running or whether they were using a PCI or cardbus device.. The RT61 kexts supplied by ralink are the exactly same (same filename, size, version) for both PCI and Cardbus.. So when I found the 2006 kext and installed it on my 10.6.2 system with my PCI device installed I get the following messages when booting in verbose mode: Dec 31 00:20:15 OSX86 kernel[0]: kxld[com.Ralink.driver.RT61CardBusDriver]: The super class vtable __ZTV20IOEthernetController for vtable __ZTV17RT61CardBusDriver is out of date. Make sure your kext has been built against the correct headers. Dec 31 00:20:15 OSX86 kernel[0]: Can't load kext com.Ralink.driver.RT61CardBusDriver - link failed. Dec 31 00:20:15 OSX86 kernel[0]: Failed to load executable for kext com.Ralink.driver.RT61CardBusDriver. Dec 31 00:20:15 OSX86 kernel[0]: Kext com.Ralink.driver.RT61CardBusDriver failed to load (0xdc008016). Dec 31 00:20:15 OSX86 kernel[0]: Failed to load kext com.Ralink.driver.RT61CardBusDriver (error 0xdc008016). Im no genius but the very first line saying "...ZTV20IOEthernetController for vtable __ZTV17RT61CardBusDriver is out of date" tells me that there is hope.. This Kext was released before Leopard was around nevermind Snow Leopard.. I dont know why they made a Universal Kext seeing as there probably wasnt any intel based macbooks or Mac Pros with PCI (Not PCI Express) to my knowledge.. Perhaps it was for the Developers to work with during the Pre-Release of Tiger for Intel.. The point is it DOES work for some People.. My guess is this kext is "out of date" for Snow Leopard but I dont have 10.5 or 10.4 to test it either.. Please can someone decompile the Kext below and Recompile it for Snow Leopard.. I believe this is progress but dont have the knowledge to take it further.. Please Help! Joolay
Hi Joolay, i installed this driver en my SN 10.6 and does not work, the airport utility does not recognize my PCI wireless device....some progress? regards, OK.. firstly, this kext uses the ralink utility that comes from the package on the Ralink website.. It doesnt use Airport utility at all.. 2nd, My whole post is about asking for someone to help update the "Old" kext to work with 10.6.. the code in post 1 shows it tried to load on my PC but was "outdated" 3rd, the progress I meant was to find this "old" kext file because its not easily available.. the links other people provided are usually dead or not accessible to my country, and the new kext driver on the Ralink Website is only for PowerPC.. Apologies for any misunderstanding If anyone is running 10.5 and has a PCI-based RT61 chipset could you please test this kext to confirm that it works Please we need someone to help fix this kext Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/205057-ralink-rt61-2561-pci-cardbus-help-needed/#findComment-1376782 Share on other sites
