sorry i could not put enough info in the subject fields.

also sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

my problem i am having is i just got a gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L revision 1.0 motherboard because it was listed as being compatible with rebel efi

http://wiki.psystar.com/index.php/Motherboards search for GA-G41M-ES2L and you will see a √ indicating fully compatible.

and the processor is a sl94r pentium d dual core 3 ghz i pulled from another pc that i got as junk i know the processor does work it is not fried because it is able to boot the efi cds.

http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL94R for the specs

i have 2 gig of ddr2 800 ram made by crucial.

the problem i am having is the latest of rebel efi will boot but as soon as i put in the $29 snow leopard dvd it starts to load then restarts and goes back as if the reset button was pushed.

same happened with empire efi cds too.

i tried the so called retail dvd that was gotten from newsgroups thinking ok maybe it is a modified installer dvd and the same thing.

i am using a standard ide ata dvd drive i got at staples for under $40 some time ago i dont know if maybe snow leopard does not like pata drives.

i do not have the hard drive connected yet because all my problems to date has been the inability to boot the snow leopard dvd.

once i get past that problem then i will connect the hard drive.

i have been toying with the thought of following the http://www.insanelymac.com/2009/08/how-to-...-pc-hackintosh/ instructions and pre install snow leopard from a real mac i have a mac mini intel duo and then hacking the installed snow leopard according to the instructions and then connect that drive to the hackintosh.

but that defeats the purpose of being able to boot the install dvd.

the total hardware so far i have (due to keep costs down) are

1. GA-G41M-ES2L revision 1.0 motherboard from newegg.

2. pentium d dual core sl94r pulled from a junk pc

3. 2 gig of crucial memory from newegg.

4. generic standard pata ide dvd drive from staples

5. cpu heatsink/fan combo pulled from same pc that gave me the pentium d dual core sl94r

my only other thought is it could be the processor it has to be a core 2 duo not a dual core

while i am waiting for some help i am going to be trying other things like seeing if i can get the usb port to boot so i can connect the dvd drive through a ide to usb adaptor

putting the efi on a usb stick and the above method of pre installing via an existing mac.

thanks for the help.

I have OSX running on a machine with just about the same specs.. E2160 on that motherboard.. I didn't use the psystar {censored} to do the install, there are plenty of great instructions on this site. I did have to combine some other Gigabyte motherboard instructions to get it all to come together. What you need to do is restore a DMG of the SL CD to an 8gb+ thumb drive (USB stick, whatever you call it), then install a proper EFI (Chameleon) to that stick, as well as a minimum of kexts to go with it. Make sure you're not using the onboard video, it's not supported. I have a GF 7300LE in mine.. There is a G41-ES2L thread with some files you'll need, such as the DSDT, if you don't already have one for you're board, that DSDT will probably get you booted without wiping out your bios settings. Put it in the /Extra folder on the stick.

Anyways, once you have the USB stick ready, reboot, hit F12 at the bios screen, choose the USB drive, and it should boot up and start installing. Find that G41 thread and follow the rest of the instructions to get it wrapped up.
