Daveanator
Basically I bought some seinheiser hd headphones for £120 because I really like listening to music and working with headphones on, however after I got them out and plugged them into my current setup I was really unhappy with the sound quality. Despite this I have listened to these headphones many times before in shops and they always sound amazing. So what I think is the problem is my current set up with my iMac is just not powering the headphones enough. Im really interested to see what other people have done with regards to audio set ups with there macs, as im thinking about buying a amp to act as the middleman between the mac and my headphones, seems like the only logical solution. Any thoughts / current setups or information would be greatly appreciated! It sounds great when watching movies or listening to music. When I use my $30 JBL's I use the front head phone jack and it sounds great too. scwhar
This USB soundcard I use would work, has headphone & RCA in/out definitely sounds better than onboard sound ever did (onboard hacked with my mobo always a bit extra {censored} on OSX (VoodooHDA) but I mean it sounds better through stereo amp or headphones than onboard through Windows as well) Can't speak for iMac but in PCs onboard generally not as good as a decent USB card, if you spent that much on headphnes I think a USB card would be worthwhile. COurse there is the sound quality of what you're listening to to consider as well, bitrate etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/203909-getting-the-most-of-music-from-your-mac/#findComment-1380979 Share on other sites
ph363
First, get some good headphones. J/K sennheiser makes some pretty good cans. My grado 225's sounded terrible on my MBP until I picked up an amp. I think thats your best bet for full headphones. I also have a set of etymotic earbuds that sound very good without an amp. So good, that I haven't taken my grados out of the box in over a year.
