Hi,

After much searching, I understood the Kalyway 10.5.2 image to bethe correct one to install onto my Toshiba Portege M200. However, after a successful (so it told me) install, When I load, it just sicks on the grey apple loading screen.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get this resolved, please ?

I'm really stuck

Thanks

TK

The next step is to use the F8 key to get the boot loader to stop and wait for boot arguments.

Try boot with -v -f first. (verbose ) and note where the boot process stops and what is indicated as the reason.

Followed -v -f -x (safe mode).

Report back.

Hi Neil,

Thanks for getting back to me, I have been reading up a lot over the break and eventually got it to work (although I have since broken it, with a ill timed sytem update).

The solution in this case was to try a different Kernel, speedkernel and speedstepkernel seemed to do the trick.

The reason I did a system update and broke it, was because I could not get the wireless to work and also, when I ran Chess (as a test) it failed to launch. I suspect it may be something to do with graphics driver setings. Front Row, also failed to launch.

The wierd thing is that after erasing the HDD in Disk Utility, I am unable to get the O/S to load again, even when used the same install disk and kernels.

Any pointers as to where I can get more info would be grately appreciated.

Thanks

TK

PS, I did mange to lookup and try out the -v -f and -x commands but did not need to press F8, as the laptop always booted to the BOOT prompt.

Once I get this sorted, I will have to figure out how to change the default kernel to prevent me having to manually enter it every time I boot.

Thanks again.

Neil.

ok, even more progress.

Have managed to get 10.5.2 back on to my Toshiba Portege M200. However, I have the following problems:

1. Graphics display is not working sufficiently well, it's ok for internet but cannot display avi video files in Quicktime or VLC (sound is fine), this also prevents Front Row and applications like chess from running.

2. WiFi does not work. Do I need to get a PCMCIA or USB Modem to overcome this ?

3. Sleep mode not working, I have tried SleepKernel but that still does not help.

Stuff I need to know / find out

1. If I can update the o/s at all ?

2. How to tinker with options from the installation DVD without re-installing.

3. How to find and loads 'Kexts' (maybe this is the answer to Q2)

It's a challenge to say the least However, if I can get there I will have acheived quite a lot.

Thank you

TK
