hari om
Solution: Hook up a USB 2.0 hub. I think its a known issue with Mac OSX that it cant handle USB 1.1 devices very well. So I connected the USB remote IR receiver to a USB 2.0 hub and now it can shutdown very well. I just have to launch USB Prober.app at boot time for it detect the USB remote receiver. Hi, I've MSI G41TM-E43 motherboard with 4 USB ports and Core2Duo E7500. I installed SL 10.6.2 with FakeSmcv2.5 from netkas and EvOreboot from kexts.com. The shutdown/restarts works fine if I dont have the USB IR connected. I'm trying to setup a USB receiver as an IR remote. If I have that remote plugged into the USB port and try to shutdown, the system shut downs temporarily, fans stop and then everything starts again. I have disabled wakeup from USB in the bios. I have also installed Windows XP SP3 on a different hard drive for the same system. When I shutdown from the Windows XP with the USB IR attached, the system shuts down normally without a reset. One more thing for Snow Leopard, I've installed USB Overdrive 3.0.1 so that I can use my USB IR receiver as remote. This kext makes the remote work under boxee. But in order for the USBOB to recognize the remote, I need to launch USB Prober application and quit it once after the system boots up. So, the SL with any other USB device shutdowns fine. SL with the USB IR receiver + USB Overdrive kext + USB Prober launch causes a reboots. I know this is not USB Overdrive board, I've emailed him personally about the issue. But I'm looking for some ideas how to fix the issue. hari om
Additional information: I removed the USBOverdrive driver and also remove the auto launch of USB Prober application. Now, just the USB IR receiver is connected to the USB port. Still the system doesn't halt when shutdown. If I unplug the USB IR then it shuts down normally in halt state.
