Hello,

I'm planning to make my first Hackintosh in a week or two, using a OS X Snow Leopard retail disc. Before I do so, I was wondering whether or not I have to buy the Snow Leopard $29.99, or the Mac box set for $169.99.

I noticed on Apple's website that Tiger users have to buy the more expensive Mac box set. Does this mean that the $29.99 option is more along the lines of a Windows 7 upgrade, rather than the entire OS, or is the only real difference between the two options the presence of iLife and iWork in the Mac box set?

Any help I could get regarding this is appreciated.

Thanks :P

I was asking a same question as you here a couple days before, seems the answer is $29.99 one ... is actually a full version. and seems no one buy box set here.. Pls check here for more. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=203175

i used the $29.99 retail SL dvd to clean install on my machine without any prior versions of the MAC OS on it. The DVD infact contains the full version of the OS.

also.. as you pointed out on the Apple's website:

http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html

Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.

If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, purchase the Mac Box Set, which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard; iLife, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

the Box Set includes additional stuff.. iLife and iWork... that's why its more expensive.
