"Stop" sign over apple logo on boot. "Still waiting for root device" in verbose mode.

I have continued my thread in this new one, as a new problem has arised, and it will benefit others by the information being here rather than at the bottom of an irrelevant thread. Old thread here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=203218

So anyway, onwards.

I have installed iDeneb, without any drivers so that I would be able to load it without it locking up. If I boot into it, after about 10 minutes I get a "NO" sign through the apple logo, if I boot with verbose -v, it gets stuck at repeting "still waiting for root device". Since looking at this problem on here, I have swapped the HDD to Primary master (IDE Drive), but still have no luck. Any more suggestions?

Thanks.

If only it was that easy.. The DVD is very tempremental when it coems to booting it.Most of the time it just doesn't happen.. And I have burnt about 3 dvds to make sure that it was the disc. Any Ideas?

Right, I reinstalled, selected a few ata drivers, but still getting waiting for root device. Is there anything I need to do for active partitions, or not because ts on a seperate hdd?

No, it's a hardware (configuration) issue. Still waiting for root device means either there's no driver loaded for the drive controller or the BIOS settings are wrong (SATA not set to AHCI mode, doesn't apply in your case since you're using a PATA drive).

for PATA devices you can try jumpering it as master and placing it at the end of the cable with no slave device connected. Make sure you're using a 80-conductor cable.

If your burn is flakey, try different burning software. imgburn and Nero works for me.

Always burn using high quality media and at the lowest speeds supported by the drive.

Don't randomly select multiple drivers for the same hardware, that will only make it worse!

If a particular driver name like "AppleIntelPIIATA.kext" or "AppleVIAATA.kext" doesn't mean anything to you, google it and find out which devices they support, or seach by your PATA controller's make and model to find the right driver.
