Hi everyone.

So.. I have been running my Asus P5KC with OSX for a couple of weeks now using Kalyway 10.5.2 as an install.

WAnting to get more out of my computer, I decided to try to get it updated to 10.5.8, and ran in to loads of trouble.

I must here say that with exception of my early network problems, 10.5.2 has been working perfectly.

Most of the time it would crash, but when starting with -v and finding out that it stops when mounting the root image, I found a tip to choose "Compatible" instead of "enhanced" under sata controller options in bios, and this works.

So I used the Apple updater to update my Kalyway, and everything is working fine.

Except for 3 issues, one of which is more major than the others.

1. My drives are missing. I can plug in an external disk, and it pops up as it should, even my memory stick comes up fine.

I have tried repairing permissions and rebuilding the extensions, but the drives still aren't there

The last thing I tried was disabling the drives in bios, booting, then rebooting and enabling the drives (to save myself from physically disconnecting them), and this didn't work either.

I must say now, that the drives are NOT visible in the disk utility, and that on 10.5.2 all drives were functioning perfectly.

2. My system now after updating seems to be running slowly, and not responding properly. Using windows logic, I would guess that this is related to the disk issues, but I am new to this, so I may well be wrong. The boot is also considerably slower than 10.5.2.

3. I can't get my TV's (this mac is connected to my 50" plasma only) resolution on the screen. (I couldn't before either, so this is a totally unrelated issue that I'm sneaking in) Right now I'm running 1280x768, and the tv should be something like 1366x768 or something weird.

The specs of the machine:

Motherboard: Asus P5KC

Processor: Intel C2D 2.66GHz

Memory 4Gb 800MHz

Harddrives: 2x WD 500Gb, 1xSamsung 1Tb (2 partitions), 1x ESata 500Gb (The onboard esata works fine, even after upgrade)

Graphics: XFX 8800 GTX 512Mb

Original install: Kalyway 10.5.2 using only Vanilla kernel, NVinject 512

Updated to 10.5.8 through apple software updater without problem (Except for having to change from enhanced to compatible sata controller in bios, and the above 1 and 2 problems appearing)

When you updated, did you update your seatbelt.kext? I've only really heard of disk image issues with it, but maybe fixing that will help. Other version can be found here. I guess it's possible that your SATA drivers that worked in 10.5.2 don't work in 10.5.8. Theoretically they should be forward compatible, at least within the Leopard tree, but that may not be the case if they are dependent on some library or kext that changed with the update. See if you can find newer disk kexts for your hardware.

I dunno.. I'm still quite new to this, but I'm guessing I didn't. I used the vanilla update from the Apple website. How do I find out what kernel I'm using?

I'm considering the SATA drivers too, it's an onboard Jmicron, but I'm not sure what chipset, so I'm trying to figure out a way to check that without having to reinstall windows.. I may also go straight for Snow Leopard, as I've got the kexts for it.. But I'm not sure yet.. :)

Right.. So after a bit of detective work, everything is now working fine..

I updated the Seatbelt.kext from your link above, and updated some other kexts based on this post:

And the SATA controller was changed back from compatible to enhanced again.

Now I have all my drives, and the machine is running smoothly again.. Thanks a million for great help and a good explanation. :P
