warpigs Posted December 13, 2009 Share Posted December 13, 2009 I have been using mac computers all my life, I remember getting OS 9 and a 56K modem, with a meager 1GB HDD, I was excited. Fast forward about 10 years and here I am, still a devout mac fan, but also a poor 20 year old. I have a black macbook that has been doing me very well but I want more power than it can offer, and I have always had a soft spot for a good desktop. At some point I became aware of the "Hackintosh", this idea appealed to all of my desires, you build it yourself, you can make it very powerful for fairly cheap, and it runs OS X. I decided I wanted to dual or possibly triple boot definitely with OS X and Windows 7 and maybe with Ubuntu, so I could play games. I have never had cable so all the media I consume is on the internet, mainly Netflix instant and Hulu, and since I am usually using my computer for entertainment I might as well put it in the living room. I have never had an HDTV so I figured a 24" monitor will be fantastic to me, especially in the small living spaces I normally inhabit, the size isn't a huge concern. I have heard lots of different things as far as compatibility goes and I ended up staying up until 6 in the morning last night reading up on stuff and picking out my parts, I'll list the essentials here, please tell me if I'm going to have compatibility problems, I also want it to be as easy an install as possible because I'm pretty good with hardware but I certainly don't know everything about the software. LogicalUser Posted December 14, 2009 Share Posted December 14, 2009 I'm just stepping afk, but at first glance you've selected a dual-channel DDR3 memory kit with a triple-channel DDR3 motherboard. The dual-channel kits are for the new i5/i7 Lynnfield 1156 socket motherboards, not the bloomfield x58 & i7s.
